Has anyone been to a concert here in greenwich village? I want to go to a show next Friday but saw that there are no seats, it's standing room only. Do I really like the old 97's enough to stand through a concert?

It's ok.
I saw Elbow there a few years back, it was semi-big and had the usual upstairs and downstairs areas. When i went it wasn't that crowded so there was a lot of space to travel to where you wanted to be.

Webster Hall is a great place to see a show, unless of course, you prefer Enormo-Domes ...

I liked Webster Hall better when it was The Ritz.

I see bands in standing room only venues all the time but don't really like it. If it's someone I'm not into I'll be miserable and I'll usually leave early. If it's someone I'm dying to see I'll stick it out happily. I saw Roky Erickson at Webster Hall a few months back and it was worth every second.
I'm seeing a band tonight that I would kill to get tickets for and it's standing room only... I'm actually getting there way early so I can get right up front, so it's extra standing, but it'll totally be it.

I don't know the band, can you recommend something by them for me to check out?

I'm not sure what your taste in music is, but they're kind of mellow with a hard British rock edge. I say Jason Pierce is a genius because he writes everything, including the full orchestra that backs them up and his voice is distinctive and brilliant. He experiments with a lot of different sounds and loops and layers his sounds more than any other band I've ever heard, and he does it really well. And his lyrics really touch me.
The album that got the most acclaim and really put them on the map was Ladies and Gentleman We Are Floating in Space and their newest one, Songs in A&E is fantastic.
IF you like Spiritualized you might want to check out Pierce's previous band, Spaceman 3. Taking Drugs to Make Music to Take Drugs to, while quite the mouthful for an album title, is great too.

That's how I am, I'd rather sit down at any concert but if it's a band I really want to see I'll stand. I've never been to that part of the city. Is there any restaraunts in that area I have to check out?

Well, most of us are older than 19. So yeah, seats are nice.

This post has nothing to do with the subject but may still be helpful. If you haven't been to Webster Hall in awhile, they have a new security team. I believe it changed in June. They are agressive and wear bulletproof vests. Most of them have "day jobs" or are retired. If you are drunk or annoying they won't let you in.
I prefer Webster Long.

That would be a good show. They are in East Rutherford tonight.
