As all too many of us know from personal experience; mergers are typically a long, long wait w/all kinds of stories, infighting, power shifts and voids, resignations....like i believe Ron mentioned today; you get to the point where you will only listen when getting an offer/ pckge etc....

Then again; the next phase of mergers is when everything just explodes....my guess is that we are finally in the relatively less vague sooner-rather-than-later stage....much of the difficult reg stuff is done....in the meanwhile, how many XM and to a perhaps lesser extent, sirius subs/renewals being lost or delayed?

would even the most cynical bet that this will drag on for another 5-6 months without at least major news?

Exactly. How the fuck does the FCC and the Justice Dept. justify approving a monopoly that they specifically set laws in place to prevent? The arguments given in favor were summarily ridiculed when this talk FIRST STARTED, and yet now they're fully plausible and accepted arguments for merger. Christ on a fucking pony.:wallbash:

I love my XM radio.

I would keep the same programming if given a choice.

However, the merger creates redundancies...and I like the music stations as well.

So I'll have to cherry pick an assortment of channels to fill the void left by this unholy union.

Oh, and I'll need new radios for my cars if I want the conjoined platform.

Will I have to rewire everything? Of course.

If all is well, Ron & Fez will transition nicely into the conglomerate.

That will make the headaches worth it.

I despise change.

Especially when it concerns tampons.

Merger=TurdSure.

Word!

I'm hoping they keep the equipment compatible enough so that you can just switch out the receiver itself when the interoperable radios come out, instead of having to get the whole damn thing rewired. I know you can use an XM antenna to get a Sirius signal, and vice-versa; if I want to listen to my Sirius receiver, I just plug it into my XM antenna here. So maybe it won't require totally starting from scratch.

The merger saves Stern's ass. It would not have been long before Sirius went bankrupt. How funny that would have been after they pissed away so much money on Howard.

It also would not have been long before XM went bankrupt, either. And they have no $500mil contract to blame.

Isn't one of the future options that they have to do for this deal an a la carte menu for channels? I never quite understood that, will I be able to pay like $3 a month for just 202 or something?

What should I expect in terms of subscription costs and programming after the merger?
Following the FCC's approval of the merger, XM subscribers will enjoy a full complement of programming like they do today at their current subscription of $12.95. XM will also offer subscribers XM service and a selection of SIRIUS programming for a total price of $16.99. Several other new programming packages will be offered, including two "family-friendly" options and packages featuring mostly music, or music, news and talk, etc. The programming line up will be announced after the deal closes.

I'm hearing that tomorrow is the day the new merged company is actually announced and we start getting some actual announcements about what's going on.

I just hope Karmazin starts the press conference by saying "Big Ass card holder #1, budday".

I was secretly hoping Yahoo.com would buy out XM before the merger so that we could enjoy R&F on the Yahoo-Sirius network.
