I think "Rain Dogs" is Tom Waits' best overall record. It keeps some of the character of his early stuff, but starts working in interesting new ways, without totally getting into what Ronnie described as "beatin' on pipes." It's square in the middle of his work. Good stuff.

I think one way to avoid it being abused might be to set it up so the President can only be replaced by a member of his own party. That is, another Republican would replace Bush. Maybe it would be a slight improvement. Who knows.
