i thought i'd leave the room for a while and do the times square thing on new years eve.
Despite my parinoia and fear of another terrorist attack, i will ring in the new year with hundreds of strangers!
have any of you folks been down there on new years? please drop any useful info on the matter thank you.
I'll hang up and listen...

I did it last year and here are some tips:
1- wear extra socks, sweatpants, shirts and gloves it will get cold.
2- don't eat or drink anything because once your there, theres no bathroom and once you leave the cops wont let you in unless there really cool.
3- Bring alcohol in a thermos, it will keep you warm and cops wont bust your balls.
4- come alone or bring friends and you'll meet some cool people. I met someone with a portable heater.
5- And most important, HAVE FUN! it's the best place to party and dont let anyone tell you different.

If anyone wants to go, let's get together to go and represent ron and fez!

Backpacks will probably be a big no-no considering 9/11, and they'll be busting balls. Perhaps Reeshy can shed some light on what the NYPD is putting in place for 12/31.

Dress Warmly, and make sure your face is protected, the canyon effect will make windburn a bitch.

COMFORTABLE SHOES. You will be walking a lot.

I'd bring a few of those heatpacks you can get in sporting goods stores.

Did it the last three years and each was different.
"98" I just moved here and went in with my then girlfriend and left way to late (7pm ish) and was really naive. The cops kept telling us that we could get in the next street up as we walked up the east side of 9th Ave. Eventually we walked up from 42nd street all the way up to the high 60's and by that time it was almost time and it was hell, but strangely fun. And yes it was freezing! When all was said and done, we were right in the middle of Central Park and Times Square, but our view of the latter was skewed. However, we had fireworks going off in front and behind us and it was really cool.

"99" (bringing in 2000)
I considered myself a pro now and was ready for anything. A bunch of cronies from home and college came up and got sauced before the event. We left pretty early (we thought) and disregarded all the warnings. We got to Port Authority at around 12pm and already the place was blocked in but not quite as tight as last time yet. I decided to act or forever walk north. Hence we all went up to the police and I stated we needed to get through for the party at the bar on the corner for we all were on the list. I lied of course and he suspected this so I stated that I will take him with us to the door and he can see for himself. He didn't call me bluff and all of us got in. We ended up on the street right in front of the ball between MTV and ABC. I/we all had the most awesome time and met countless great people from all over the world. The cops were the coolest this year too as this was the only year they allowed us to leave the immediate area to buy more beer and hit the many job-johnies. Hell, they didn't even have the bathrooms any of the other years. Oh yah, it was soooo warm too. Most of the time we had our jackets off. Props to the peeps from Montreal who we have still to visit who supplied all with Jack and Rum in their countless Pokemon thermoses. We didn't even leave till after 3am and at least 10 people came back and we played beer pong till daylight and then they all crashed for free instead of wasting money on a hotel. I still talk to a lot of the people I met that day and some have even moved to the area. I don't think I can ever match this one. My old roomate has some pics from our vantage point so check them out at www.pelzer.com/timessquare1999-2000.html. Forgive his site, as you'll see he tends to be more into himself then anyone else. Adonis complex of the mind. Hope you enjoy, but you have to remember that we were lucky more than once.

2000 New Year's Eve
Four of us total tried leave 2000 the same way we entered it, with an awesome time. Yet we were cocky this time and left at 5:00pm. And low and behold we got in to the exact point as last year. Don't try this at home, but I pulled out some pills showed my id. My story was that my father and younger sister came to visit and see the ball drop and he forgot his heart medicine. I went to get it bc I live here and he would get so lost. He asked why the caravan and it was just in case we got split up and I didn't eventually show he was to head home by just asking a taxi and get his pills and not see the ball. And this way I wasn't alone all day trying to get back in. He fell for it and let us through. The pills were some old pepcid ac's I had in my b.pack in the small pocket above all the beer which clanged a lot. The worst they could say was no and he didn't. That's where the fun stopped. No bathrooms, no beer runs, pissing in the crowd, on legs, the smell, freezing weather, not dressed appropriately, not enough beer, moody crowd that didn't want to really party, cops were jerks to everyone, and hell, I would have killed for a couch, a bottle of guiness and a cool chick to bring in the new year. So as you can see it's hit or miss. I think I gave detailed feedback but if anyone has any questions feel free to send it to my email. Hope these weren't too long.

1. Wallet in front pocket
2. CASH in OTHER front pocket
3. Take ONE credit card or ATM card, for when you run out of CAYSH.
4. NO backpacks
5. Booze mixed with juice (I did 85% tequila to 15% juice) in a Gatorade sports bottle. Camouflage is essential.
6. Don't keep your pills with your ID. Pills belong in a balloon in your rectum.
7. Dress warm, with clothes you can peel off, lose somewhere, and not miss.
8. Steel tipped boots, your feet will thank you later.
9. Mayonnaise, but I forgot what that's for.
