Run a mile. Post your time. I'll post an occasional ranking with the following categories: Men - over/under 200 pounds and Women - over/under 150 pounds & over/under C-cup, (for my personal files only). How do the categories sound? Do I need an over 400 lbs category? Bong/joint smokers? Runing from: the police/jealous husband/transexual blind date? Shorts/skins?

A note about treadmills: The way other fitness boards compare treadmils is they must be set on a 1-2% incline to simulate real running. Let's do that.

I ran my first mile(s) in about 12 years the other day.

Yerdaddy / M / under 200 / 8 minutes exactly.

My junior year of high school, I managed to run the mile in 7 minutes flat and thought I was going to die afterwards. Every other time hovered around 8 or 8.5.

i once ran a 5 hours and 02.87 minute mile. i took a lot of cigarette breaks and stopped at 3 bars along the way. still, i think it's an accomplishment.

High School 5:54

Lately, well over 9.

was it on a track or something because i never can give credit to high school or junior high school mile runs. i remember our teacher used to take us out to a big field and she would map out a track for us and tell us X number of laps was a mile. kids were running like 5 minute miles, it just didnt seem legit to me. but, if it was on a standard track then obviously it's legit.

Hottub
07-21-2008, 03:29 PM
Four 440 laps on a standard US track.
We had to do it to qualify for Varsity Soccer. I nailed it every week. (while Greg was chucking his Fruit Loops over the rail)

Ice it. Shave it. Wrap it. Have a butt and man up!:smoke:

Actually I had my share of shin splints playing too much soccer. Hard field, improper cleats.
They hurt like fuck.

Ummm... this is a "challenge" - meaning go out and do the challenge. It's not the Al Bundy Memorial High School Football Touchdown Memorial Challenge. It's not the Sit On The Couch Pondering The Beer Can Groove That's Worn Into Your Gut Like A Cup-Holder And Speculate How Fast You Could Run If You Cared Enough To Actually Try Challenge. The point is to go out and run a mile and post your time, and then try to beat it, or beat the fat liar who posted the better time than you. If you have a current mile time to go with the trips down Man-Mammary Lane, post them in my silly little format so you can go on the list.

I ran one today before the (aptly-named) suicides.

Darn you Yerdaddy. And to think I was Yerdaddy's peep #5.

I am going to do this!
But I will use the mile markers on the running path by me. That should be accurate right?
As for timing mysefl.. I'll find something.. maybe a meat thermometer, lol. It's the only thing I have here with a timer on it.

My phone might do it...

Anyway, stats to come!

Most tracks are 400 meters. So, four laps is 1600 meters, which is roughly one mile.

drjoek
07-23-2008, 05:51 AM
To clarify 1600 meters 4 laps around a standard track at the high school etc.
True Mile Time (is 1609.34m) add ~1.7 seconds So were all in the same ballpark

I dont know the exact time, just that my gym teacher said I ran it in 8 minutes and let me graduate high school

I average 22 minutes per walked mile in the heat & humidity ... stopping every few minutes for photos, traffic lights and stretching. And refilling my water bottle. With a backpack on my back.

Oh, and I get shin splints when it's time to get new shoes. (It's time to get new shoes now.)

To solve them, I draw the alphabet with my toes every day.

And then I remind myself never to get fat again.

Since I have some really good sports bras now, maybe I'll see whether or not I can run a mile. We have a track nearby, so it's worth a shot as soon as it's cooler. (I'm with Mendy; my death will not be a result of RonFez.net)

Jenn, that's still better than what I could have done in high school. Good for you!

(I always thought it was dumb that the final exam in P.E. was to run a mile...and anything over 9 minutes was pretty much a fail. Which is completely unfair on so many levels that I don't even want to get into it. Senior year, I had an "A" average in P.E. An "A" average got you out of your final exam. I did not run the mile as a Senior.)

It doesnt matter what your time is when you run, just so long as you are doing it. Yesterday as a result of a lot of frustration with my life, I ran a mile and a half in less than 11 minutes. That is better than anytime I did when in the military. Military you were required to do 50 push ups, 11:57 mile and a half, and 45 sit ups.

Freakshow

Agree 100%. I felt unbelievable after running just one mile last night (well, after I regained my breath and did a cool down jog). I felt better at my job today, too.

I think I may try to do this once a week, maybe I can go under 6. I'm actually in reasonable shape for once in the past 5 years. I walk the dogs everyday and i'm praciting Australian Rules Football once a week. I am still 30 pounds over what I weighed when I graduated college, but I think a little bit of that is muscle, when it used to be all beer belly.

with a brand new pair of shoes and plenty of inspiration after watching the women's olympic marathon, i gave the mile another shot. the muscles are fairly willing, but the lungs leave something to be desired. i do think with a little work i could crack 6:00.

7:30 tonight.

M, Under 200.

My goal for this overall is 6:59. Probably going to do this four times a week or so until I hit it.

I am running on a course, not a track, so it's uneven terrain.

Watched the men's marathon on-demand and then went out and did a workout (felt like another mile wouldn't produce much progress at this point). 4 X 90 seconds hard with 60 seconds of slow jog inbetween. So it was closer to a fartlek than a true interval workout. I think I did my warm-up mile in under 7 minutes I was so pumped up after watching running...

I can't quite get to the point of being able to run a continuous mile yet, but I did a walk/jog/sprint overnight for about 7 miles going at about 21 minutes per mile.

Eventually I'll hit up the high school track and bust out a mile.

Yeah, we had to do the same thing to qualify for varsity football. Well, the run a mile thing or make the bleachers move when you hit them. (I opted for the latter.)

We did have gut check jogs on Sunday mornings after Saturday night's post-game hi-jinx. It was 1 mile and backs and receivers had to hustle (I forget how long they had) but they gave us linemen like a half hour.

It was the worst feeling waking up with a hangover and sore from the game knowing that you had to go run... but it did get rid of the hangover when you finished.
