Sorry if there is already a thread about this, I tried searching but couldn't come up with anything.
I bought a new PC back in April. Until this time I was using my old assed Titanium Powerbook, both me and the man are apple people, but I figured we needed a PC "just in case" and for a new side job I had started. Anyhow, I cheaped out and instead of spending the extra $200 to get XP I got Vista. I always read about what a nightmare it was, but it seems that the stories really are true.
I don't alter my machine much, all I have installed was software for the new job, AIM, my camera software, an all in one printer, Paltalk and Firefox. My computer kept locking up and couldn't be "Ctrl+Alt+Del" fixed, I had to powerdown with the button on the machine front every time. It also kept getting BSODs. I called HP support and went through a whole smattering of fixes with them. Once I got it up and running again I waited about a month and reinstalled Firefox and Paltalk and my cam software. Again it started crashing and locking up and just not functioning at all (I was doing system restores 2-3x a day!)
I got it up and running and remembered what the gentleman on the phone mentioned that for Vista to run well I should upgrade my RAM. I have a Gig (2x512) I am now upgrading through crucial to 4gigs (2x2gb). Im running Windows Vista Home Premium (or premiere, who knows what the fuck its called). Has anyone else experienced this problem with paltalk or with firefox and vista? IE gives me no problems, but I know it is a security risk and I just hate it. Any work arounds? Any suggestions other than "go back to your mac" or get rid of vista since the former is fine, but the latter, isn't an option.
