View Full Version : Is there ANY heat for this X-Files movie?
I would think this would be kind of a big deal, but there's really been no buzz about it at all.
They've slowly started to role out commercials over the last week or so for it, but it just seems like people are kind over the X-Files.
Maybe it'll get some heat after Batman rolls out this weekend, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I haven't seen an X-Files episode in years. I think it ran in syndication for about 10 minutes, then floated away.
They just waited too long to bring this movie out. There are a few hardcore fans that will catch it in the theater, but the rest of the country will wait for cable/DVD.

I was a huge fan of the show when it was new episodes- but yeah, especially after the first movie was no big deal, I'm not expecting much here.

Yeah, this one's kind of flying below my radar too.
Though I do hear it's going to follow more the pattern of the "monster of the week" episodes than the "mythology" episodes, which I think is a smart move. That "mythology" got way too convoluted and was needlessly complicated in order to keep the show going. I can't think of any other shows that's happening too (*cough* Lost *cough*)
Damn allergies.

I only caught a handful of X-Files episodes, but then I watched the movie and I couldn't really follow everything that was going on. I'll pass on this one.

I can't wait for this movie and it is still in sydication on Sci-Fi. There are two episodes on a day and recently they started showing the first season so right now alot of the newer ones are on. I've been DVRing them and watch about 12 episodes a week for the last month in anticipation of the film.

So the movie's going to make at least $10.

I'm gonna sit right in front of Lleeder.
I'll see it before I see Dark Knight, and I dont mean this as a joke, but because I hate crowds.
I was a huge fan of the show and I came in second in the Ron and Fez Show XFiles Trivia Contest.
I loved the first movie and the ads for this one look great.
I can't imagine it helps that Duchovny and Anderson have been almost non-existent since this show went off the air.
Duchovny does have Californication, and I like it a lot, but that show didn't exactly set the world on fire in terms of the number of people who watched the first season. It did ok for Showtime.
I was never a huge X-Files fan, and definitely more of a fan of the self-containing episodes than the mythology, but I was really surprised there hasn't been a lot of heat for this.
I would have figured there's still a pretty big sleeper base of X-Files fans out there, but I guess they waited way too long.

I asked this very question of my wife the other night. She is a huge fan and is really excited about it, but other than the talk in my own home and the same commercial again and again, I have heard nothing about this movie. There is absolutely no buzz. I know it has been a really long time since the show was huge, but it always had a huge cult following. With that kind of fanbase I would definitely have expected at least some talk about it. Hey Paul O can you explain this for me?
ChrisTheCop

I think the same people who are interested in The XFiles movie are also excited about The Dark Knight. And frankly, theres just more excitement about Batman right now.
By the time it opens (July 24?), theyll have all seen Knight at least once, and can refocus on their next orgasm.

I don't know where you got that idea. It's been running in syndication pretty much non stop for about 10 years.

The only thing remotely interesting about this movie to me would be to see Gillian Anderson and all her hotness. The trailer did nothing for me. It's the kind of movie I will totally wait to see make it to cable and then I'll watch it.

If its just me and you in the theater alone you really show spread out a bit so I can see. I love the "mythology" as people are calling it. The more with the Truth the better for me. Californication is a very good show as well but i think it was meant to be one season and done.

Agreed.
No clue how they're going to do season two, unless the end of season one was just one of his crazy daydreams.
But I don't think it was suppose to be set up that way.

I think their priority was to not leak plot points. The trailer doesn't reveal much. There were lots of legal problems holding things up. I think they made the right kind of movie.

Actually, they did in the final seasons. All was resolved. But this new movie has nothing to do with the alien colonization.

So it was concluded in the movie or the final seasons of the show? I did not watch past the first few episodes of Season 6 (I think that was the one right after the movie, I remember the episode right before the movie was called "The End" and the episode after was called "The Beginning." Clever! I also think that was when they started filming in LA. There was something about filming in Canada that worked well with that show)
If it was in the movie, I guess I just missed the point of that movie. I do remember they had the Black Oil somehow injected in Bees and Grey Aliens (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greys) grow out of people who become infected with the oil. There were a lot of helicopters, Mulder and Béla Lugosi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Landau) were peeing on movie posters and Well Manicured Man blew himself up. Locke (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_O%27Quinn) from Lost was in it, right? I might re-watch it. It's been a while
So could someone fill me in on the major points of the whole Alien/Syndicate thing that was a running thread in the show? If it ended with the movie what was the conspiracy for those years afterward?

It concluded in the final seasons with the second plan of colonization, the super soldiers, and the birth of Mulder & Scully's child, William.
I could write pages of major points but I'm afraid the best way is to read up on your own.
The X-Files Timeline (http://www.themareks.com/xf/main.shtml) website is an excellent source of summarizing the conspiracy.

BOMB'S AWAY
The new X Files movie has debuted disastrously at the U.S. box office!
The movie took in an embarrassing $4 million on Friday.
Ouchie ouch ouch.
The pic is expected to only take in about $10 million for the entire weekend.
How could this have happened????
Meanwhile, The Dark Knight continues to devour the box office.
The film took in another $23.1 on Friday and is expected to make around $73 million this weekend.
The film is on track to beat the record set by Pirates Of The Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest , which took in $300 million at the box office in 16 days.
The Dark Knight is expected to do that by day 10!
And, based on their continued strength and repeat business, it is even being mentioned (http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/amazing-dark-knight-run-continues-stepbrothers-big-x-files-bombs/) that The Dark Knight could beat Titanic to become the biggest grossing film of all time.
Bananas!
I now believe the Illuminati had Heath Ledger killed.
They had to have known the potential money involved if he kicked it. If Heath's still alive, Dark Knight opens maybe a bit higher than Batman Begins. Not like this.

To quote someone else who saw this and was extremely disappointed.
"There are no aliens, there is no conspiracy, no paranormal at all. The story is about the good and evil of stem cell research and a pedophile priest who might have been telepathically linked to a guy, but this is thin, very thin.
There is no suspense, little drama and absolutely no X-Files."

We all just got back from the movie, it was complete shit. The four of us wanted nothing to do with it and have decided to act like it does not exist. In fact, the Yanni concert DVD that I put on last night for everyone was enjoyed about 17 times more than the movie.
We are all big X Files fans too, we watched the first movie this morning in anticipation of the new one and were pretty excited. Instead of a fun movie we got two hours of garbage, horrible "emotional" scenes, and a bunch of other garbage and in it all about 45 seconds of actual X Files style stuff. The chemistry did not exist between the leads and there were too many long talks about stuff no one cares about.
Bah.
Things enjoyed more than this movie: Doom: The movie, The American pilot of Life on Mars, and Mexico, where I came down with horrible food poisoning last week.

I've only seen one or two X-Files episodes in my life, and I own the first X-Files movie on DVD (never got around to watching it), but I don't think I'll watch either now that I've seen this movie. Very blah. There are more paranormal things in Indy 4 than this.

I'm no Paul-O, but my headline for this movie would be "The Z-Files".
It had its moments, but the entire Scully sub-lot about faith was lame. I guess they were trying to make an emotional point, but it was missed by a mile. It was basically just another television episode, but 99% of the ones they did were better. Too bad.

I just got back from seeing this. The best part about it is that the DVD's of the series are now marked down to promote the flick. So, for the price of 2 tickets you could get yourself a season full of episodes that are much better.
The movie was one of the most pointless ones I've ever seen. I don't know why they bothered to bring the band back together to produce an average, double sized episode. Where did the $30 million budget go? The actors?
