The local park has live music tonight, so we'll be heading over there tonight and bringing picnic foods. Any suggestions for recipes for good picnic food?

Save time and money, just steal someone else's pic-a-nic basket.

With picnics you want something easy to transport and easy to clean up.
Also something that can be eaten without utensils, unless you plan on bringing plates, etc.
(I know that all the uptown folks have those bamboo picnic sets, but for us plebians on the outermost edges of polite society, some love has to be given to Chinet.)
Bean salads are good (you can use canned beans to save time ... and if you start now, you might have something halfway decent by the time you leave) so are things like hummus and pitas, sammiches, etc.
(Oooh, now I want falafel with Israeli salad!)

Pick up some chicken and fresh corn. That's picnic O.G. style.
Good place downtown:

Do you have access to a grill and something insulated (to keep heat in) or no?

No grill. As far as keeping things insulated, it's not too much of a factor because the park is only about a block away.

Well you can do this on broil and it is always a great side (as long as you have plastic forks) chop up your favorite veggies maybe toss in a few bits of garlic. Oil and balsamic with some pepper into a tin foil pouch let the sauce get to a low boil (or soft to the fork) and thats always a great side. You can also cut corn on the cob into thirds and throw that in there as well. If you dont have them seperate (the O and V that is) a decent italian dressing usually does the trick. As far as the main dish you gotta go with a hoagie of some sort...nothing beats a good sandwich in the park.
