View Full Version : Penile Cartilage?

OK, here's one and it's a penis question.
Below the head of my penis there is a 'rough white mark', it feels like cartilage and it's probably 1 mm by 2 mm, but only when I'm erect. When I'm not you can't even feel it.
Should I go to my doctor or is this nothing? I doubt he will be able to see it anyway.
Thanks.

This is the kind of question that "Weird Medicine" was born to answer. :-)
You didn't tell me whether you are circumcized, but I'm going to guess that you are, and here's why: every circumcized male has a scar that circumnavigates the penile shaft; it marks the area where the foreskin used to be attached. I'm guessing that what you're feeling is scar tissue from your circumcision.
why can you feel it only when erect, you ask? because when flaccid, the scar tissue can surround the shaft loosely...when erect, the fibrous sheath under the skin becomes taut and since scar tissue doesn't stretch much, it may become more prominent.
Most men can't feel this; I wonder if the intern who did your circumcision (again, just guessing here) had a little "oopsy!" when doing it, causing a little extra scarring in this area that you now feel.
If you're NOT circumcized, this would still be consistent with scar tissue, possibly from an early trauma to the penis (a zipper accidend ("FRANKS AND BEANS!") or something similar).
You're right, no doctor will be able to feel this abnormality...unless somehow you are able to get an erection in the doctor's office (I'm in the medical field, and I'm not embarassed about anything, but I couldn't do it).
If it's been there since puberty and it hasn't changed, it's unlikely to be anything but benign scar tissue. If it's new, or if it's changing, or if there's discoloration, or oozing or anything else abnormal, suck it up and let a urologist look at it.
Hope this helps!

Steve

Not circumsized, no puss oozing or discolorization.
My chick hasn't even noticed it when she's pleasuring me, so I think I am just self conscious of my little imperfection.
I will keep an eye on it.
Thanks for your help, Dr. Steve!
