Seriously one of my favorite shows!
Alton Brown is like a the Bill Nye cook and he's great at it!
I feel like when I'm watching his show, I understand why I need to do everything and where it was originated. Sure he gets a little corny, but he's funny and entertaining and makes me a smarter cook!
Yay Alton Brown!! :clap::thumbup::wub:

Is he an ex-chef or what? He certainly knows a lot about food and has lots of energy.

He majored in chemistry or something but I'm not sure if he was officially a chef...

AB has a degree in TV production or film, worked in the industry, then went to culinary school. I don't think he ever worked as a pro chef.
I'm a big big fan of Alton Brown. I DVR every episode of Good Eats and always follow his techniques. Yes he's corny and geeky but he does call himself out on that like a tongue-in-cheek gag. He's aces in my book!
Here's a little blurb about how he got started from wiki:
"Brown received a degree in drama (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drama) from the University of Georgia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Georgia). He began his career in cinematography (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinematography) and film production, and was the director of photography (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Director_of_photography) on the music video for R.E.M. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R.E.M._%28band%29)'s "The One I Love (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_One_I_Love_%28song%29)." He has also worked as a steadicam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steadicam) operator on the Spike Lee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spike_Lee) film School Daze (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_Daze).
At some point, he noticed that he was very dissatisfied with the quality of cooking shows then airing on American television, so he set out to produce his own show. Not possessing the requisite knowledge, he enrolled in the New England Culinary Institute (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_England_Culinary_Institute), graduating in 1997.[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alton_Brown#cite_note-1)[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alton_Brown#cite_note-2) Brown says that he was a poor science student in high school (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_school) and college (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College), and focused on the subject, along with his cooking training, and felt the need to understand the underlying processes of cooking."

one thing i always admired about AB is that he never, that i can remember, tried to make foofy food. his cooking was always very basic, but he always explained why certain things were done (not just cause they taste good).
i think he's an awesome show host; he's very likeable, has a great understanding of what and why, which is why i think he's the perfect host for ICA. He knows how to interact without being a control freak.
I think that his side kick Kevin could also use a good bump.
Supposedly, AB is also a cigar afficianado, which is a +1 in my book.
