Anyone caught this new series called Under the Influence? Host Elvis Mitchell has one-on-one interviews with actors and directors and talks to them about their favorite movies, actors, scenes, etc...

Two episodes have aired so far. The first was with Sydney Pollack who passed away not too long after it was taped. The second was with Bill Murray.
They don't seem to replay these episodes except for one replay the same night it originally broadcasts.
The cool thing is after each episode, a movie that was mentioned a lot in the interview is played afterwards and then another movie also mentioned is played after the replay.

Look for it every Monday night. The next 2 are with Lawrence Fishburne (7/21) and Quentin Tarantino (7/28).

i started reading this thread, loaded with venom, thinking how ronnie was funnier than anyone, and therefore had the better show.
but the two movies idea, along with choices of guests have made me want to see it.

No, it's set up just like the Unmasked setting. Although the first episode was taped in front of a studio audience, but the second was not. Not sure how future episodes are done.
Sometimes they'll talk about a scene from a movie, then cut away from the interview and show that scene, but that's all done in post.

Ummm... So did Dick Cavett in 1968, So has Jonathan Ross since 1988... now it's Ron Bennington in 2008 (they do these things "on the 8s," like traffic & weather. It's just that THESE 8s are WAYYY further apart!!!)

I am not a big Elvis Mitchell fan, in spite of his compelling hairstyle...

I'm well aware of other interview shows. I only compared it to Unmasked, because it is exactly like Unmasked, from the stage setting, the live audience, the subject matter of the interviews, etc...

It's a completely ubiquitous format...
Ron's approach REALLY reminds me of Dick Cavett tho...
Which is why I am posting a pic of Jack Paar!!!
