Apparently because of dust pillows should be replaced every year or something like that. Although excessive on the yearly thing I had old pillows so new ones were in order. New pillows blow, they are either too hard or too soft. They even beat out the benadryl test.

I've had serious pillow issues for years. I have to have one that's just right, but there's no way to know if it's right unless I sleep on it. I know I can't find the perfect pillow cheap, but I don't want to put out a bunch of cash for one only to find out it isn't just right. AGGHH!!!!:wallbash:

ha. I'm glad I'm not the only one with these issues.

Ive needed new pillows for about a year, but every time I go to buy some, I get too afraid their not gonna be right, so I abort the mission.

I had similar fears..I purchased two pillows and didn't like them. I kept the receipt and returned them after a 2 week 'trial' period.

Disgusting indeed.

However, not as sick as filling pillows with pulled pubic hair...and returning them.

You've put too much hard work (and bloody follicles) simply to turn 'em loose on strangers.

Go ahead, prove you care...and pad your head with the hair that curls down there.

You deserve it!

Do you really have to change the pillows every year? Why not just get new pillow cases?

You do have to get new pillows frequently, especially if you have allergies.
Pillow cases are still permeable and if you have dust mites & bacteria living in the foam (or feathers, if you use feather pillows) they're right against your face all night. (Eww.)

Things you can do to reduce the allergens are:

(1) Use non-feather pillows.
(2) Launder your pillows a few times per year in HOT water. (To dry them, get a can of tennis balls and put one or two into the dryer with your pillow to keep them fluffy. Or get those silicone dryer balls, which may be comparable in price. Don't forget to dry on HIGH.)
(3) Double-case your pillows or use a zippered pillow cover. Fabric ones are fine.
(4) Launder your pillowcases as often as you can, in the hottest water the fabric will tolerate.

You need to replace your pillows if:

(1) You can fold them in half and they don't spring back.
(2) They're really nasty-dirty. (Washing won't help at that point.)
(3) You've had them for more than 10 years.

Wow, I'm 3-for-3. Guess it's time for new pillows.

I've had my pillows for years and I don't give a fuck.

I guess you could say that I like dirty pillows.

I was making up a new aol abbrev, but forgot to come back and splain.
laughing my ass off late at night.

I had similar fears..I purchased two pillows and didn't like them. I kept the receipt and returned them after a 2 week 'trial' period.

Now I have a new fear when shopping for pillows.... were these being bitten in someone elses house for the past 2 weeks?

It is indeed gross, because pillows are just as personal as underwear; which I'm pretty sure you cant return after 2 weeks of trying em out. You sweat on pillows, drool on em, hug em through the night. I could maybe see a 24 hour return policy, but soooo much can happen to a pillow in 2 weeks.

I prefer Jonyrotn's idea of hitting the strip clubs and sleeping on a new pair every night.

What is so disgusting about it?

Disgusting is my euphemism for "extra sexy".

Sorry about the confusion, Pladd.
