It's good to see him seemingly get his act together

They did a Real Sports on him before last season, where they went through the whole thing, and he's got it together to a point.

His wife and kid used to travel with him to every minor league game he played in to make sure he couldn't get in trouble, and his wife and father-in-law got him heavily into his church, which he references A LOT now.

Bryant Gumbel kind of grilled his wife on it during the interview, and she really kind of admitted that she still didn't trust him to be by himself.


You have to give the guy credit that he recognizes he can't be left alone, because he'll get in trouble. That's a lot further along than most addicts are.


It's a shame, though. This guy will end up like Mantle. People will say he's great, but it'll always be with the addendum "just think of what he could have been."
