Here is an article on the new features. Even if the set list doesn't impress me, I am liking what they've done to the core.

And now, simply because I'm disgusted by Harmonix wanting to "introduce us to new music", I'm helping promote someone's site that is tracking votes on what we really want to see in this game. If you are like me and are tired of waiting for the true greats to be added or hate the obscure stuff they try to pass off as quality DLC, then please vote here (http://www.rbdlc.com/WantedVote.php).

I don't know. There's a lot of really good stuff on that list. Nice to see Mastodon and Testament on there.

I wouldn't call that list obscure at all for the most part.

And they releasing a shit load of Who songs this week after releasing Red Hot Chili peppers and Rush songs last week. The DLC has had a lot of good stuff.

Yeah, I don't begrudge them for what they did get. There are some really good choices, but when they themselves touted this as "the greatest setlist ever composed for a music game", I personally don't see it.

I was expecting A-list material from how they hyped it. Not this.

For the most part? No, but you can't deny that these bands like Bikini Kill, Dinosaur Jr., Interpol, The Donnas, and The Muffs aren't even close to being mentioned in the same breath as the greats.

But, there's a certain number of people who would buy the game just for those songs. It seems like smart marketing.

Exactly. It's a pretty diverse set-list drawing on lots of different rock genres and time periods. I actually think it looks pretty solid with that in mind.

Maybe, but they sure would make much more money with bands like Black Sabbath/Ozzy, Led Zeppelin, The Stones, Van Halen, The Eagles, Queen, Def Leppard, classic GnR (not this crap called "Shackler's Revenge"), Iron Maiden, etc.

...and they would have to likely pay out a lot more as well. I don't know a lot about the process of selling song rights to video games, but if it's similar to TV and movies, it would cost a crapload to put that list together. The company needs to weigh this cost, because there's a point when the extra money going into the setlist isn't proportional to the increase in sales from making the setlist better. Besides, even your dream setlist is only focused on the classic rock fans, and you need to look outside of that to broaden the appeal of the game.

Edit: and isn't the GnR song they are using supposed to be a big deal since the song is getting it's premiere in the game.

Oh, believe me I understand full well that the bigger the artist is, the more money it must cost to get them in the game. I do understand that 100%. And I also understand that the genres need to be diverse. Of course you need that to appeal to everyone.

My main beef is putting virtual unknowns on the disk instead of saving them for DLC. You want to blow people away when they read what's on the disk. It's like trailers to a movie. You hook people with the best parts. Granted, a lot of these songs will, but then you see others that you've never even heard of or there are bands with their lesser known hits. Take Cheap Trick for example. This "Hello There" song, it's a measly 1:30 song that is not one of their more well known hits. They got the band, so why not "Dream Police" or "Surrender"?

Doesn't the first one already have all that garbage?

The first one has Maiden, Sabbath, and the Stones, but of those three only the Stones is a master track. The other two are covers.

As for them being "garbage", by all means tell us what you find to be great music.

I know it came out that Led Zeppelin songs wont be in any music game because they don't want to release their masters.

Between the Buried and Me fucking rocks. Sometimes I hate being a Wii owner. Wii have to wait until December for this goodness.
