So I've come to a conclusion: FM transmitters eat dead elephant ass. Especially this one I have for my iPod: it seems like if it moves the slightest fraction of an inch, I get static or the sound quality goes to shit. So I'm thinking it's time to upgrade my car stereo so that I do have a direct connection.

I found a part to do it. My car has an AUX button on it, but needs a part connected to use it. I think I've found the part here:

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=50900&i=469FRD4AUX&tp=1672

so my question is this: is installing this something I could do myself, or should I hire someone to do it for me?

Now, if someone here is willing to do it for me, that's cool. There might even be treats in it for you.

crutchfield usually gives you all the instructions you need, and their tech support is top notch. If you've replaced computer parts, you can work on your car stereo.

yeah its fairly easy, if you're comfortable removing your dashboard trim and pulling your radio out a bit, its very simple.

now the tricky part is routing the wire to where you want it, i simply ran mine down the dashboard where luckily there was an opening to the carpet..and ran it to my back seat (hatchback) to where i wanted the ipod.

just make sure you select a destination for the wire before you start, makes things simpler.

and if none of this makes sense, definitely get someone to do it for you.

I did mine a few weeks ago. I'd never done it before, but I didn't find it tricky. Just do your research

I just bought a new Alpine for my wife's car that has an iPod connection chord running out the bottom of the dash. This not only charges the iPod, but diverts the iPod control to the stereo face itself. This seems to be increasingly de regeur with car stereos (it also has chords for an additional aux in and even a place for USB)/ Best $400 I ever spent not on Cocaine.
