Was watching the post game show, when YES announced this truly sad news. I'm going to miss him in the booth. It's going to be a sad All-Star game at the Stadium.

I just read the news. He was my favorite Yankee. I have pics of me and him together among baseball cards he signed for me. My g/f and I talked her sister into naming her first born after his daughter. I can't stop crying.

Wow... damn.
This really caught me by surprise. Did they even mention that he was sick again? I had no idea the cancer had come back. It seems like they just welcomed him back to the broadcast booth and he was making light of his brain surgery. I was under the impression that he had beaten it and he was in the clear. This fucking sucks.
RIP Bobby. Definitely a great guy and a class act.

Like others have said here, Bobby was a real class act and was easily one of my favorite Yankees. Growing up I also listened and watched many games he called as a broadcaster for Yankees along with Phil Rizzuto and Frank Messer.
He will truly be missed, rest in peace Bobby.

I found this article on June 30th:
The Yankees today released a statement from Bobby Murcer's family explaining why the YES Network broadcaster has been absent from recent Yankees telecasts.
Murcer, 62, who was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor on Christmas Eve 2006 and underwent surgery five days later, is suffering from symptoms associated with the cancer.
The statement is as follows: "Bobby Murcer continues to recover from the effects of cancer and shingles, which caused him to cut short his broadcasting work and his book tour earlier this month. He has been under medical care in Oklahoma City.
"The cancer treatment over the last 18 months has been intensive and has, as a side effect, somewhat compromised his immune system and made the fight all the more challenging. While he has shown some measured improvement in recent days, this is clearly a major battle, as all who have been through it understand.
"Bobby remains hopeful that he will be able to resume his broadcasting work down the road, but for now, is appreciative of the thoughts and prayers of his fans, and wants them to know that he is aware that he is in their hearts, as they are in his.''

I guess he isnt important enough to Espn .AIDS to even mention it as lead breaking news. But they made sure awful Favre, who no one outside of the NFC north states, gives a shit about, is still in the main breaking news section.. God i hate ESPN.

Mark Twain said "Let us endeavor so to live that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry."
Bobby Murcer lived that advice. Godspeed, brother.

Sorry to hear this. It was odd how FOX handled it. They broke to the studio and threw it back to a obviously startled and sadened Tim McCarver. I swear I heard he holding back tears.

Thoughts and prayer go out to the Murcer family.

Sorry about the other Post I started. Just a sad day. Bobby was a big part of my childhood. He was the face of some bad Yankee teams that I grew up loving. My sister is the biggest Murce fan ever and she is devastated. Its funny when I was little I had to pretend that I didnt like Bobby Murcer because he was my older sisters favorite player. I have no problem now saying that I always admired him on and off the field. Good Egg all around....RIP Mr Murcer! YANKEE FOREVER!

Albert was really shook up too.
I was wondering why they would break that news to guys who clearly hadn't heard it and who both had personal connections to him.
I felt pretty bad for them.

Yeah, it was so tense and awkward. If it wasnt for Albert having to call the game there was complete silence between them for a few minutes.

Man, this is breaking my heart. I really thought he was a great survival story. I remember his welcome back to the broadcast booth, and feeling great that he had made it through. He thanked the fans for all their support and was even MAKING JOKES his first day back about his "new brain". The guy had such a great attitude about everything. It's such a shame to hear that, after all that triumph, he took another turn for the worst. He was far too young, in body and in spirit, to go.

Nothing better than watching the Yanks on WPIX and hearing Murcer, White, and Rizzuto in the booth.
God speed, Bobby. Tell the Scooter we still miss him.

I was watching ESPN news and they were talking about Mercer passing away. And at the end they show his most current picture and when he was born and 2008. But in the backround they showed a pic of him when he played. And it was in a fucking Cub uniform. Hey douche bags. He was a fucking Yankee and was proud of it. Why fucking show the man in a uni that he fucking spent little time in. Once again. God i hate ESPN.
