I'm going to the Continental Airlines show and am SO excited.

I saw Ricky last year and wasn't that far away from the stage but found that I couldn't really make out his face 100% and a lot of his humor is in his facial expressions so I was a little disappointed. I'm prepared to be a little disappointed in that regard again, but hey, it's fucking Ricky Gervais a living legend... I'm just grateful to be in the same room as him!

This thread depresses the shit out of me.
I was planning on flying in and going to the show, but, financial problems have put the plan at a standstill.

I guess I'll just watch his standup clips on youtube that night. :(

Well I saw Ricky last night and I have to say I was disappointed... not because he wasn't funny, but because I saw him do ALL of that material before... last year!

I saw him last year when he was in NY doing that thing with David Bowie and thought he was great. To my disappointment, at MSG last night, he used almost all of the same material. I was pretty shocked because I really wasn't expecting that over a year later.

Oh well, I still love Ricky and still had a great time, just wanted to vent a little.

I thought Ricky was great, but after seeing Eddie Izzard earlier this year, I gotta say Eddie was a better stand up.

Just my worthless opinion...

I knew the first 15 minutes really well but the only knew a few things after that. It was the first time I ever have seen him live so I didn't really care. Thought it was great. And the opener was good too whos name escapes me right now.

I know extras is funny but i can't imagine him being funny enough to withstand an actual touring show. Of course all the material is going to be circulated, that's all comedians do, reuse the same stuff with just a little bit of new material to see how it goes over.

I can barely listen to Patton Oswalt now because of tis.

Blech.

I have to agree there... I think he's an amazing actor and he's beyond awesome at writing for tv, but stand up? Meh. I thought his act was good when I saw it last time... second time around I was less impressed (obviously). It just REALLY surprised me he didn't have much new material at all over a year later... it's not like I saw him twice on the same tour. His encore was exactly the same also.

There are definitely comedians you can see twice in a few months and see two completely different sets... some comics are constantly creating new material, but then again they don't have two multi-award winning tv shows.

I'm going to see Patton Oswalt soon, but I've never seen him before so it'll all be new to me.
