A "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" appreciation thread.

http://claytonguiltner.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/16247.jpg

In the beginning Guy Fiere comes off like a douche. The only thing that would make his sunglasses look better would be a permanently attached blue tooth bud.. However, if you give it a bit, they do show some amazing artery clogging goodness. The show gives my heart palpitations just watching it. The food looks soooo good I just cant turn it off... Eventually, you will gain an appreciation for Guy's ability to walk the viewer through the over the top, and probably, over fried experience.

I personally find it very satisfying food porn.

I agree. I am sick of "That is killer", "That is money", but once you get past it, it's top notch. I've hit the Circus Drive-In at the Jersey Shore, and the Skylark diner by me house.

During a slow weekend, when they have old and new episodes of his shows you can see how friggin big he's gotten in that short time.

thats my huge beef with the show too......every thing he eats is "out of bounds!" or he acts like its the greatest food creation ever! for once id just like to see him take a bite of something and say it was too salty or it needed something else. i started watching the show when he was on ron & fez a few years back. i even went to White Manna in Hackensack recently because i saw it on D,D,&D. Even though Guy pisses me off a lot, im still an addict of this show.

I also hate Guy, but love the show because I would eat everything they show.

The major head fuck for this series is when Guy says how he doesn't like eggs. Doesn't like eggs and yet he pitched a show where one travels to diners.

As an added note, I also can't stand when some of the owners or cooks play up to Guy and try to be funny by using his 'isms. Just uncomfortable to watch.

Dude, if Anthony Bourdain is still with us, Guy has a couple of decades to go. I've seen him eat more pork in one episode of No Reservations than most humans consume in a year. Plus you never see him take more than a couple of bites of any one thing.

He was here in Baltimore a couple of months ago and those episodes are starting to air now. He was pretty much filming at each place for an entire day.

Time to add Guy to the death watch for 2009, 2010..

greatest stoner show ever

Lets also add, greatest show with worstest host.

There was one show that was about a fried something where the bread crumbs for the fried thing was from fried bread itself... Holy shit, brilliance...

I can't stand this show. Aside from the annoying host, all he does is go and visit restaurants and most of the food is just regular diner food, nothing out of the ordinary. I can go down to the local diner and see the same thing 95% of the time. Big whoop.

We visited one of the places in Arizona. Good times. They had a PB&J with banana sandwhich which was pretty good.

They had Duff on from Ace of Cakes on a past episode - it was pretty funny.

I don't mind Guy hosting, but I do mind his Fridays' ads. THOSE are cringey.

Guy Fiere is ok, but I still prefer Alton Brown. Guy is a little to "over the top" for me; I don't think I could watch a whole Diners, Drive ins, and Dives marathon without Guy driving me crazy.

Is it Ironic that Guy's best-known show is "mom and pop places" but he shills for one of the biggest chain restaurants in the US?

Guy won the Next Food Network Star, so people out there somewhere must like him. I just tell myself 'he's from California,' and then I can watch without getting too annoyed.

The show is about Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. I don't know what you're expecting besing some pretty standard diner food most of the time. That being said, he does 'themes' to the shows, and there is one recently where he does non-traditional places in Detroit and elsewhere that had some crazy-sounding stuff. Looked real good, too.

I had only started watching for a couple of weeks (on-demand) before I saw him down the street from my house at a Coney Island Hot Dog place. Otherwise I would have no clue who he was.

What ADF said.

Nothing is out of the ordinary about the type of food shown, you can basically get a variation of all of it from your local place.

I also don't get why anyone would go out of their way to visit a diner, i can see a restaurant and upscale place but a diner, seriously?<--I mean this for regular folks, not the guy whose show is based on the concept.

When we were in California for our honeymoon I had printed out all these places from dinersd drive ins and dives and forgot them all.

But I remembered one place and it happened to be a mile away from the diner.

I love this show. I think he's too silly to be a douche. I'm sure he wants to be seen confident and stuff but when they show him mess up lines because he has to stop and admit that what he just said was corny, it show that he's just a doof.

Did anyone see the South Beach specials where they have all the food network people together doing a show?
It was great.

Diner's, Drive-inns and Dives may be the best show on TV. I think Guy is cool I'm willing to look past the catch phrases and sunglasses for the great show.

It combines cool diner food with the reality show bit of "meeting" people.

Guy you can let the food cool a little before you take a bite.

Guy's Big Bite is a good show also. He is a little more laid back on that show. And the food he makes looks killer and off the chain.

Alton is like a mad genius he's great also but Gida is the funest to look at bounce bounce.

No random thread and I'm tired of looking for a Man Vs Food thread, so this will do.

Adam Richmond is turning into a total fat tub of shit. Like I'm starting to get uncomfortable with how tight his tshirts are getting, and as a stout fellow I totally recognize his sitting down in a jacket I really thought was bigger posture. And I know he isn't taking it off because he looks like a slob, and he's probably got some serious pit stains going. In the first season they seemed to play up a little that he was into running, and he was pretty flexible. I dont think he's touching his toes anymore.

He needs to take a page out of the Guy Fieri book, who seems to try and extra slim down in between seasons knowing that when he hits the road he's going to eat like a monster.

There should be a contest on whose weight fluctuates more - Fieri's, Richman's, Tyler Florence, or Rachael Ray.

Biggest Loser: Food Network Edition would be a ratings monster.
