best final ever, I enjoy the grass court action
such a gr8 match, you cant sink a drop shot on Nadal, he is too quick, he practices for 2 hours after each match along with his training. The man is a machine
Federer is now # 2 in the world,. Nadal is tha man to beat
I was gonna start this thread
but 99.9% of these people think Tennis is lame

Nadal is a great athlete. He is to tennis what Roy Jones is to boxing or even better what Wade Wilson was to football.

There was literally NOTHING else on t.v. today, so yes i watched. It had to be the first Wimbledon final i've watched since early Sampras. I have to be honest, I loved it. I have no idea what prompted me to watch, but I did and I certainly don't regret it.

Great match. As a die hard Federer fan, I am utterly distraught right now. What a roller coster. To come back from 2 sets to love, and then go to 9-7 in the 5th - wow! Tennis needs this rivalry to go for another couple of years...if Federer has it in him. These two are clearly head and shoulders above the field. This can/is better than Connors/McEnroe, McEnroe/Borg, Becker/Edberg.
Nadal is amazing, if he can stay healthy and can improve is hard court play (his best Grand Slam finish is a semi at the Australian) he will be the next Federer - if not more. Just as a note to all those throwing Federer aside, remember he is only the 6th man ever to make it to every Grand Slam final, he is the reigning US Open Champ and is only 27 (yes old, but has at least 3-5 years of tennis left in him) and will most likely pass Sampras.
Nadal beat him on his "home court", but as Nadal acknowledged he still has a way to go. He will end the year at #1.

I watched from the beginning of the second set til it was 3-3 in the 5th and then I had to go to work, but DAMN was it good. Im not a big tennis fan but I get into the big big matches, and I really get into it any time Nadal and Federer play. I wish I had gotten to see the end and I was really happy to hear Nadal won. This may actually get me more into tennis.
Also I fully expect Nadal to win the US Open. I just cant see anyone but himself beating him. At this moment, he has 5 grand slams. At this same age, Federer had 1. Thats pretty fuckin impressive, and I definately expect a 6th this year.

Nadal has won 4 of the 5 on clay, usually a highly specialized surface. He has yet to show his authority on the hard courts, I wouldn't put him over so quickly for the Open. I think in time he will adjust his hard court play, as he did his grass play. He definitely has the momentum, but he has never made it past the quarters of the US Open. Federer, if he gets his head straight after this loss, will still be the #1 seed and have a great chance at it. Djokovic, an ass, beat Federer at the Ausi Open (hard court), always plays well on the hard court and has beaten Nadal on the same surface - he can beat both Nadal and Federer in NY next month. I think Federer regroups, wins the Gold and goes on to defend his title in NY.
Next year it is Federer/Nadal in all four finals! They both are class acts, our athletes should take a lesson on how to be gracious in defeat and humble in victory - just can't see that happening.

If Im not mistaken, Nadal has beaten federer more on hard courts then lost to him. I thought grass was Nadal's real problem. I dont follow alot, like I said, so I could be wrong. But I thought Nadal was better on Hard then Grass.

No. Federer leads the Hard Court series 3-2, Grass 2-1, Nadal leads Clay 9-1 for an overall edge to Nadal at 12-6.
As I mentioned in my post, Nadal has yet to show up to Hard Court Grand Slams, he made a semi this year in Australia and that is his best finish. He is improving the power on his serve, but his game is based around hard spinning forehands and his advantage as a lefty. Big servers like Roddick do better on hard surfaces. Clay is the slowest of all surfaces, there for the ability to spin the ball and cover the entire court - like Nadal does better than anyone - come into play. He took to grass and improved, he should be able to do the same on the hard surface.

I was on my flight back to Florida and 90% of the people watching the match were cheering in the middle of the flight.
Best match I've ever seen, just a beautiful display of tennis.
Amazing.

Yep.
The last time I had one of those experiences was when Cuse was playing UConn and Cuse nailed the game winner at the buzzer.
It was getting real close too, we were about 10 minutes from landing when the match ended.

I quite agree. It was a great advert for the sport. This match had everything, everything, and the standard was as high as anything we've ever seen. Nadal has really come on this year, and he's made impressive improvements to his grass game. He's really pushed Federer up a level too, and this rivalry could dominate tennis for years to come. Indeed, I think it's far too early to say if this marks a changing of the guard. Equally, it's difficult to tell if today's final beats Borg v. McEnroe from 1980. Time for some reflection... I'll have a Pimms Cup, thanks barman.

The so called guard will be going back and forth for at least another decade probably.
Nadal is 22 and Roger is 27. Insane.
And Roger is just 100 percent pure class. I was pulling for Rafa, but I was hurting for Roger at the end when Johnny Mac was talking to him.
And how much did Rafa's celebration rule? Including the class acts that are the Federer family, giving him a standing ovation right there.
