Any one looking for a show worth watching ought to check out Burn Notice (http://www.usanetwork.com/series/burnnotice/) on USA
WHAT IS BURN NOTICE?
When spies get fired, they don’t get a letter from human resources.
They get BURNED...
This summer, USA Network presents the second season of Burn Notice, a sexy, action-packed original series starring Jeffrey Donovan as Michael Westen, a blacklisted spy. Dumped in his hometown of Miami without money or resources, Michael struggles to put his life back together and find out why he's been burned. In the meantime, he uses his unique skills and training to help people in need ... mostly people who can't get help from the police.
Burn Notice also stars Gabrielle Anwar as Fiona, a beautiful ex-IRA operative who happens to be Westen’s ex-girlfriend. Bruce Campbell stars as Sam, Michael’s closest buddy in town, a washed up military intelligence contact who is keeping an eye on Michael for the Feds. Also starring is Emmy® Award-winner Sharon Gless as Madeline, Michael’s hypochondriac mother, who couldn’t be happier to have her boy back in town.
Joining the cast this season in a recurring role is Tricia Helfer (“Battlestar Gallactica”) as Carla, the woman who may be behind Michael’s burn notice.
They will be replaying a marathon of the first season (11 episodes) prior to starting the second season next week. Set the tivo and give it a try
Its a good show but if you need any additional incentive here

USA network is great. I love Psych and Burn Notice. The new show In Plain Sight is pretty good too. Not into Monk too much. It goes to show ya that you dont need to be FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS to be able to have shows. Speaking of Burn Notice.....i need to get season 1....

Sexier than any of the skanks on that show:

The show isn't that bad. Though I don't understand why some people don't like narration in some movies, I find it can be a little annoying sometimes in this show. I watch it if nothing else is on.

I almost said the same thing, but being as she revered among the BSG fans, I decided to leave it alone.
Gabrielle Anwar is even flatter, if that's even possible, and she looks weird to me. It took a while to figure it out last season, but then it finally hit me. It's the lips. Her top lip is bigger than her bottom one. Most people's bottom lips are bigger, so it makes her look strange.

I've tivoed the entire 1st season, and Six eps in, here's my report:
I enjoy the show. It's definitely not the best thing on TV, but maybe the best thing on summer tv.
Whenever I lose interest however, Gabrielle shows up, and I'm right back into whats happening. I also enjoy the "bumper" girls after every commercial. Makes me wanna visit Miami...after a few sit ups.
A lot of suspension of disbelief is required with this series, but again, it aint bad.
Episode 6, with the Jamaicans and dirty cops, was the best storyline yet.
Maybe it's just cause its the last one ive seen, or maybe the writing's getting better.
All in all, thanks to DrJoek for the heads up on this one.

It's a good show - I enjoy watching it when it's on. It kind of reminds me of Magnum PI with the voiceovers and the locale and everything. However - Show of hands - how many people think the lead of Burn Notice plays for the "other team"? He sets off my gaydar to "Captain Jack" levels.

2 episodes in an no comments? Wow...I guess ill start and say i love it. The new girl who plays Mikes handler is hot. I do like how they are making Mike interact with his mom more b/c i think it makes for good comedy. Sam is still the best character on the show. I def like where its going. I do wonder though......if say the show last....7 seasons....are they going to make Mike wait till the last season to either get his job back/find out who burned him? i mean, i guess they would have too b/c then you can call it Burn Notice anymore. then again.....Prison Break is going into season 4 and who knew that would last beyond 1-2 seasons if they weren't in prison.

Gabrielle Anwar is deff way too flat to be sexy.
Actually I don't think that time has been kind to her.
She was so much hotter, even as flat as she is, back in that movie w/ Michael J Fox and in on of the Invasion Of The Body Snatcher remakes.
And is it just me or does she use that Irish accent only like 15% of the time now ?
To be honest I'm glad, because it's awful, but it does lack a little consistency.

Different strokes, but I think she's amazing.
As for the accent, it was explained on the show.
She's a former IRA terrorist, so she's faking an American accent while in miami.
I would do anything to have a woman like that pining for me.
Now, if ya wanna talk about time not being kind, see Sharon Gless. (Michael's Mom)

Given the ending, I don't think he's going to be on the "run" from the group that burned him. Rather, old enemies from whom the group was allegedly protecting him will be coming after him.

One of the often stated conditions of his team helping you is that you never tell anyone.
However, quite often, a new client has shown up saying, "you helped my friend, he says you are the best.." Michael rolls his eyes, and helps anyway.
As for those he fucks over, they have no reason to be looking for him, or talking about him. You only talk about your victories.

The show is meant for at least 8 seasons. So, it should be a good time. How I know its 8 seasons? I read an interview Jeffrey Donovan did and he mentioned how he just renegotiated his contract for season 8. It makes sense. Monks final season this year is season 8. So, I guess they want all there shows to last that long. Fine by me. Gives me something to look forward too in the years to come.

Some of them are killed, some of them never realize that he was the one who fucked them over, some of them are run out of town, and no one, except the people he helps, knows his name or where he lives.
Given that, I don't think it's so unlikely.

maybe theres a bad guys convention and they start venting bout this guy who messed up something big for them and bam they realize its the same guy and maybe eventually find mike

run out of toen doesnt mean they arent planning to come back and get him and then bounce out again

Maybe, but I don't think in any of the episodes that any of those guys were told his name or knew where he lived or operated. Yes, they may want revenge, but it's not easy to do when you don't know who or where the guy is.

I mean, these are spies, I think it's reasonable to assume that they could find out about him if they did some searching. Plus now that he's not being protected I'm guessing it's going to be way easier to find him.

With regard to the former, those people, for the most part, weren't spies. They were neighborhood thugs, thieves, con men, etc. They don't have the resources to track down someone whose name they don't even now.

I'm thinking maybe spy contacts leak out who he is to any enemies he may have made? Kinda like they did in Smokin' Aces, opening up the info to a ton of would-be assassins and sending them after Michael?

The show is meant for at least 8 seasons. So, it should be a good time. How I know its 8 seasons? I read an interview Jeffrey Donovan did and he mentioned how he just renegotiated his contract for season 8. It makes sense. Monks final season this year is season 8. So, I guess they want all there shows to last that long. Fine by me. Gives me something to look forward too in the years to come.

I thought I'd bump this thread to get people ready for the Season 3 Premiere next week on June 4th. Also, the show will start at 9pm now, instead of the 10pm slot it had for the first two seasons. They are making Burn Notice the lead in for USA Networks new series Royal Pains, which I am interested in checking out. USA Network has not yet failed in making a series.

Michael is bailed out of jail by an old friend who asks for his help in return.

I liked the ep of course, but I also liked the commercials for Royal Pains.
The 1st one or 2 had me thinking how similar it was to Burn Notice, and I rolled my eyes thinking, theyve found a good formula and will now run it into the ground.
Then, the final commercial, where the Dr from Pains gets a care package from Michael Weston!!! THAT commercial made me hit the tivo button and record the upcoming showing of Royal Pains...havent watched it yet though.

Second season, they made her hot all the time, and the show is now done.

Jeffrey Donovan's twitter tells all:

I can hear his voiceover now as he holds that ball in his hand,
"When throwing out the first pitch at Fenway, it's important to remember the basics. The first pitch isnt really a pitch, it's a throw. Too much effort and youll miss your mark. Too little effort, and theyll say you didnt try hard enough...."

Where Fi takes a shot to the chest? They always show those and then they end up having a vest on or something that made it seem like a trick. At least I hope that's what happens.
I love the progression of Michael's mom and how she's getting involved. Entertaining episode as always.

I think that it's because of the half-seasons they do on USA. Burn Notice may have run through most of the episodes so they could keep it as the lead-in for Royal Pains. I think there are only going to be 8 or so more of Psych as well.

Yeah, I kind of see what you're saying...but you do see from time to time people returning. I mean Jay Karnes' character is in and out (although I think Mike put a stop to that last time by threatening his kid) and Gilroy has been featured pretty prominently.
My interpretation was that because he's just working against local punks and small time mobsters, they don't have the resources and stuff to track him down.

I lost track of watching this regularly a few seasons ago and now only catch the occasional epsiode.
What's the deal with, or lack of, Fiona's accent.
In the early shows she had that awful Irish accent and now she doesn't appear to have anything.
Are the producers that sloppy or was there a plot point there ?
StanUpshaw

They made mention of it. Something to the effect that she'll fit in better in Miami if she's not talking like the Lucky Charms guy.

But from an acting perspective I bet it's that Fiona didn't have the chops to keep it consistent.

well she is from London in real life I would bet it would have been easier to have an Irish accent for her rather then and American one?!

Surely British to Irish is easier than British to American. And would sound less awkward when she messes up. I don't know why they did it.
All I know is damn...that's one Anwar I wouldn't mind drillin'.

Must be a plot point. A while ago I read an article about states/cities film commissions. Burn Notice was mentioned as a show that was getting serious tax benefits and support for filming in Miami.
I hope next season they get back to the main team, Michael, Fi and Sam. Jesse doesn't seem to serve any purpose other than to fill some need for cast diversity. And do they really need to figure out a way to shoe-horn Sharon Gless into every episode?

They seem to work mom into every episode somehow. It was good to see her get whacked in the head. Jesse doesn't work for me so much either. Sort of like when the Flintstones ran out of plot and brought Gazoo in - or sort of not since Jesse can't fly or perform magic. It would be a good plot twist if Jesse was from another planet and benevolent but sort of absent-minded.

I honestly expected Jesse to have turned and it would be revealed he was working with Vaughn to get back at Michael. It was a gut feeling I had all season, but as soon as Weston gave him the flash drive, I was almost sure of it.

Great show but a terrible last season. I dont know what it is but is anyone else confused by who burned Michael and the reason he was burned? It seems like when you think you know who burned him it changes or it was multiple people from different org.
I like Jesse but dont like that he was burned by them and all has been forgotten but Michael being burned seems to matter more to the crew. I know he wanted to kill Michael for it but it seemed like they made up and it was no big deal too quickly!

They need to end this "who burned Michael" storyline; they have taken it as far as they possibly can. They ended this season with him supposedly welcomed back to his old job. He should just say no thanks and walk away, then the series can concentrate on his job-of-the-week.

I haven't watched the show in a long time. What's Jesse's relationship to the group (Mike, Fiona, and Sam). From the last 3 episodes that I watched, Michael burned him. So why did he join them?
The other characters from prior episodes before the season finale- the guy that got the flash-drive from Michael and the other guy who I'm assuming in Michael's mentor, and Vaughn), what's their background story as that's the first time I've seen those characters. And what deal did Vaughn offer Fiona before (I'm assuming they worked for him in the past?

Mike burned him in order to get information he needed. Then Mike met him and they teamed up to find who burned both of them. Jesse never knew Mike burned him and if I remember correctly Mike, Fi didnt know they would like him as much as they did. They built this relationship with him and when it finally came out that Mike was the one who burned Jesse, Jess wanted to kill Mike. After a couple of eps like that Mike finally explained to Jesse he didnt know it was him he was burning and that he only did it to find out who and why he was burned himself. There was a mission they thought Jesse was going to kill Mike instead he helped Mike and all has been forgiven!

Im watching the season finale now and I agree its becoming a job watching this show. I really do wish they would finalize why he was burned, get rid of the new guy who started it all and have him not care and just become a private eye and go back to do what they were doing the first few season when he helped others.

Michael was being blackmailed because Fiona was going to be framed for that explosion. Fiona turned herself in so that guy (I forget his name already) wouldn't have power over Michael. This is totally out of character for Fiona (I know, I know, she did it for love). They should have just killed that guy when they had the opportunity and taken their chances.
Michael is boring in the C.I.A, they need to get him back working on private cases. They also need to get rid of Jesse, he doesn't add anything to the show. One good note this season, they didn't bring in Michael's neer-do-well brother, another annoying character.

Ok so it was because of the explosion at the state building when she killed those 2 security guards. Why didnt they just kill him? She had the perfect shot and Michael pulled him away. It really makes no sense at all and is getting boring. So next season will be completely about him trying to get Fiona out? So stupid and btw how did they even know Fiona did the explosion other then some guys word, thats enough?

Ok so it was because of the explosion at the state building when she killed those 2 security guards.
IIRC, the explosion was much larger than the charge she planted. The bad guy planted the extra explosives and was going to let Fiona take the fall if Michael didn't help him.
Why didnt they just kill him? She had the perfect shot and Michael pulled him away.
Because if anything happened to the bad guy, the F.B.I. would be notified it was Fiona who planted the explosives.
It really makes no sense at all and is getting boring. So next season will be completely about him trying to get Fiona out?
Looks that way. They'll probably set-up the bad guy to take the fall (and it will probably take all season to do it).
So stupid and btw how did they even know Fiona did the explosion other then some guys word, thats enough?
I don't think they even knew it was Fiona until she turned herself in. She must have called ahead of time because they were waiting for her with a S.W.A.T. team.
So to stop Michael from doing stupid things she turns herself in. Now, of course, he'll do even more stupid things to get her out. Doesn't make much sense.

There was a show in the 80's called "The Equalizer" about a former intelligence agent that used his skills to help people. That's what "Person of Interest" is basically doing too.
I've seen every episode of Burn Notice but lost interest this season. There really was a point where Michael needed to find out who burned him, and why, and then rebuild his life. Anyway, it would be nice to see Bruce Campbell pop-up again somewhere.
