Well, I saw it tonight.
Perhaps it wasn't the best movie to see, considering my current state of mind.
Overall, it was a pretty good flick.
Made me think about a lot of things.
I can't give much of a review without spoiling, and I don't feel like using spoiler text, so I won't.

OK. Here are my thoughts on Vanilla Sky. Spoilers are ahoy, so they are typed in ultra-keen spoilertext. Swipe to read.
<font color="fffff">The first thing that bothered me as soon as I left the theatre was that Dr. McCabe mentions to David that he should take off the mask - that his face is repaired.
Yet when he's in the LE office, and removes the mask, he's disfigured again. Weird.
Second thing I noticed - during the murder scene, I could have sworn that while David's choking out Julie/Sofia, it's Diaz wearing a brown wig in one of the edits. If that's the case, Crowe's a genius of Hitchcockian proportions. In Psycho, Hitchcock had different hands holding the knife stabbing Marion in the shower so no one could get a read on who is the killer is.
Never before has a breast played such an integral plot role. :)
The disfigurement makeup was pretty good, but it just seemed like in some shots, it was worse, and in others, it wasn't that bad. It was constantly changing scene-to-scene.
Nobody puts emphasis on the word "fucking" like Jason Lee.
With my past, you don't know how many times I've had that nightmare when David wakes up and sees his face disfigured again. Maybe I've been cyrogenically frozen. :)
I knew going in that this movie had the Matrix kick to it, I just didn't know the plot device used. When the explanation scene started, a LOT of people in the theatre started groaning. Hey folks, it's sci-fi, deal.
Another thing, though - I kind of thought that this movie took place in the near future, considering the holographic device at David's party. But at David's funeral, it lists him being born in 1968, which means if he's 33, it's taking place in 2001. Just a nitpick.
I have to agree with Harry Knowles... the shot of David looking out over NYC - and seeing the WTC at the end - was perfect. Some people did groan, though.
Another nitpick - one would think that if David was fighting for the wheel of the car at the point of the accident, the left side of his face and his left arm would be injured, not the right side. But maybe I'm nitpicking again.
Kurt Russell DID look like Gregory Peck in To Kill A Mockingbird.
Overall, it's a good movie, but it's a lot to digest. Worth a second see, but make sure you see it with someone who likes movies so you can discuss it afterward.

Abre Los Ojos
Translation: "Open your eyes", a constant refrain throughout this movie.
