I just killed a cockroach in my apartment. first time in 5+ years of living here that i've seen a bug, aside from the occasional housefly.

it better be a one-time-only event, or i'm gonna be super pissed and set off 50 bugs-bombs to nuke every creature within 500 feet of my place!!!! god, those things are absolutely hideous!

Now you have to worry about the ghost of that cockroach you killed,
coming back to visit you tonight.

Surely you didnt think there were cockroaches in heaven.

Yeah Devo I'd get that Orkin fella to come by. What you saw was an advanced scout sent out from the walls to see what your cabinets and other stuff might have and if its cool for the rest to move.

2-3 times a year, I'll cach a glimpse of a house centipede (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_centipede)scurrying across the floor and dashing for cover.

Yeah, they're creepy looking bastards, but after looking them up online, I'm glad to see them. They're superbugs that basically devour and destroy every other kind of bug out there! So long as they're around, you're likely to never see any other bugs, or ever really have an infestation problem. I'll happily take a few scattered moments of being creeped out if it means I have a bunch of free, badass exterminators holding things down.

god, i hate you all only slightly less than i hate hideous roaches!!!

i would say, "screw you guys, i'm going home", but i'm already home, and it's a roach-infested hellhole, with spider vs. ghost-roach matches going on as we speak!

maybe JerryTaker is right: sweet, sweet suicide is the only way to make everything right...

haha

i have baby spiders this year... they keep dropping from the ceiling and landing on my computer. i try really hard not to kill spiders because they help keep the summer bug population down... and admittedly, i feel a little bad killing these babies but i can't have them just hanging out with me in my bedroom.

that being said... i am resigned to the fact that they probably have parties while i am sleeping.
but hey, they were here first, technically....

South of where I live you might be seeing people trying to use this:

http://www.rirwin.com/images/shotgun-no5.JPG

but where I live its usually just ants and some cinnamon along the wall usually does the trick until we can get someone out to spray.

maybe if i sprinkle some garlic along the walls, it will at least keep the ghost-roaches at bay. or does that only work for vampire-roaches? man, i hope i don't have any of those!

what i wouldn't do for some house-centipedes right about now...

What sucks about living in an apartment is that you can be the cleanest person in the world and the ass living next to you is a nasty slob so you get all of their bugs. I would call the exterminator...I agree with everyone else that said there is no such thing as 1 cockroach.

Aspirin and mothballs ground up keeps mice and rats away.
Cockroaches..Mothball flakes and Cyanne pepper.....they go and lick their legs and don't like the cyanne..and mothballs are poisonous to them.

this is all very interesting.

i get a small amount of ants this year.... after 5 years of nothing. yucky!
i spray and put out traps but i may try these as an added precaution.

and i have a built in mouse killer.... the two times i have gotten a poor stray mouse seeking warmth, my kitten (more like a mountain lion) has turned them into his personal chew toy... hehe.

It's coming from someone whose very name is just a shortened form of CockrOACH.

All of those were from the 1800's I first heard about them at Sturbridge Village. (My house is from the same time..and was wondering why I was finding so many old bottles of aspirin in my floors.)

yeah, i'm suspicious of the coach/roach connection myself, but maybe i'll just empty my whole spice rack all over the floor and hope that each of the millions of various bugs that apparently live in my apartment without paying rent will walk through something they don't like.

do any insects dislike Emeril's Essence spice mix? i have a whole thing of it that i only used once and wasn't too impressed with.

Only the brand reading homo ones.
Try this:
Boric Acid Powder

Nature's proven insecticide..! Borid Boric Acid Powder (99% - Orthoboric Acid, 1% - Inert Ingredients) is light blue, odorless, and nonstaining. Delivers long lasting results against cockroaches, ants (excluding carpenter ants), silverfish and termites. Boric Acid may also be used for preventive treatment of cockroaches and drywood termites. Squeeze bottle with pointed applicator tip provides easy application; see also the Pest Pistol Mini Duster. 16 oz. squeeze bottle treats up to 1,000 sq. ft.

Note: Boric Acid, a white powder, is mined from the Mojave Desert in California. It works very well against insects, but is less toxic to humans and pets than table salt.

Directions for use:
Apply directly on carpets where pets frequently traffic or sleep at the rate of 1.5 pounds per 150 square feet. Work powder deep into fibers and mat. Any powder visible after application must be brushed into carpet fibers or vacuumed. Allow to remain for a period of three weeks to achieve maximum flea control in carpets. Sprinkle around baseboards, under and behind refrigerator, stove, sink, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. Also, sprinkle into openings around drain pipes and electrical conduits, and in cracks and crevices along baseboards and corners of cabinets, cupboards and closets. Insects walk through the dust, ingest it, and die within hours.

Speaking of roaches has anyone seen Verminators on The Discovery Channel? Think you have a problem? You should see some of the houses they go to that are infested with roaches/rats/pigeons. Man it's disgusting.

It's a new world record - man holds 11 Madagascan hissing cockroaches in his mouth (http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20081013/NEWS0103/310130082)

FLORENCE - Travis Fessler wanted to break a world record Saturday by putting 10 Madagascar hissing cockroaches into his mouth.

The Florence resident, and co-founder of the Pickled Brothers Sideshow, went one better at Kenton Lakes Sportsplex.

Fessler held 11 of the hissing cockroaches in his mouth for the mandatory 10 seconds. The bugs had to measure at least 2-1/2 inches in length and survive the attempt to qualify for a Guinness world record.

The previous world record holder was “Jungle” John LaMedica of Delaware who last year managed to stuff nine hissing cockroaches into his mouth.

I've spared you all from posting a picture....

Few years ago, there was this Pizza place in Elkins Park, PA that had a silent alarm tripped due to movement detection. Police got there, and saw that the place left their pizza's out, and there were so many cockroaches that the alarm tripped.

That shit is whack.
