- On Windows XP machine, go to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Favorites

- Select and copy all favorites to flash drive

- On Windows Vista machine go to C:\Users\username\Favorites and paste favorite files there.

Yes, that is it. Vista has separated the hierarchy of User folders so everything is now on it's own. Example: Documents, Music, Pictures, and Video are all their own folders/sections instead of being under the "My Documents" umbrella.

There are also ways to make the Start menu and Desktop look more like XP if that will help you feel more comfortable with Vista.

You're welcome. I can't think of any other things to mention about Vista. I have to honestly say I haven't had any problems with Vista besides a few drivers that needed to be upgraded.

You may end up having minor connection issues with a low wireless signal and if you are on battery power and don't start with a Network Cable plugged into your PCI card.

The wireless signal: Vista needs more security info when you are connecting via wireless; if the signal is weak and/or fluctuating, the machine won't get all of the security data it is looking for and won't connect. I have had the same model computer with the same hardware sitting side-by-side but one had XP and the other Vista; the XP machine could connect to the low wireless signal but the Vista wouldn't. It has happened more than once.

Network Card: Even if you change your settings to not turn off Network Card to save Battery Power, Vista may drop the card from your network list anyway. At least that is what has happened on my machine. I have had to reboot ant have the network cable live and plugged in to restore the connection to the list of active connections.

Those are the biggest, but I will post more if I think of something else.

My desktop is running Vista and I have to say I don't hate it. It's an evolutionary step from XP, but lacked driver compatibility, causing most of people's problems. That and DirectX 10 really was weak and ran slower than DirectX 9 on XP.

Through a loophole in the MS User Agreement sold with every version of Windows ever, you can contact Microsoft for a free version of Windows XP. This is acknowledged by MS, and you should downgrade to XP. Specially since MS is supporting XP until 2013 now.

Commercial XP was ended yesterday, OEM runs into some time next year (January I think)

Yup, you can still get a copy until around January 1, 2009 through some people.

How does one go about doing this just in case?
