So I was watching CB4 tonight and...

...I was too young to know about marketing and how trailers etc. worked when this film came out, so my question is looking back on it, did people know he was going to be a gangsta rapper in this film, or was it totally mind blowingly awesome when it turned out he was, cause watching it now as an adult, I imagine the experience of not knowing Chris Rock was actually a good guy would have made this film even more amazing than it already is.
