What are you doing to save money during this difficult stretch?

Tonight I downgraded my cable package. So long HBO, Cinemax, Starz.
20 bucks a month.

I renegotiated my cell phone plan.
50 bucks a month, and an LG Rumor (for my chick) for -$1.

I may drop the sub on my Nexus.
6 bucks a month.

Malt O Meal cereal Vs. Name brand.
2 to 3 bucks a box.

DiGiorno frozen Pizza on Friday Vs. Big Jim's.
9 bucks per meal.

BTW, Tub, why did you downgrade your package? The magic words are asking if they have any promotions going on.

I cancelled my TIVO service, got a promotion on cable internet, and upgraged to digital HDTV cable. I saved about 20 bucks and still maintained all the services I had, with one less bill.

I bring my lunch to work. I don't order out except when I feel like splurging. I also bring my own cans of soda to work (when the 12-paks are on sale, one can costs maybe 25 cents vs. $1 from the machine).

I "bundled" my cell and land line bill so my land line only costs me $20, now vs. the $40 I was paying.

I'm not sure if they're saving much money yet but I switched over to the "green" lightbulbs when the old ones burn out.

I check out supermarket circulars on line and shop with a list. Sometimes I grocery shop at Target because some items are cheaper. I even use my cell phone calculator to make sure that "bargain" really IS a bargain.

I don't go to the movies. I joined Netflix and wait til movies come out on DVD.

If I do want to buy a CD or DVD, I buy used.

I am still in the Optimum Triple Play. But my cable upgraded to the Silver Package. By losing that portion and going to Basic plus 101 to 170 I saved a ton of cash.

Gotta get ready for the winter. I have Oil. 5 bucks a gallon on a 250 gallon tank.
You do the math.
And before anyone says anything, PSE&G was approved for a 30% rate increase for this winter.:wallbash:

Buying a more fuel-efficient car is doing something! I recently got a tune up and had a fuel injection cleaning. I haven't seen too much of a difference but I drive city miles.

If you cut down on the cat fud then you will automatically cut down on the litter!

The bringing lunch to work thing is an easy decision, especially since it's almost impossible to get lunch (a decent lunch) for less than $8 in Manahattan without eating fast food.

No more fancy coffee drinks.

Mass transit to work EVERY day, no driving.

dropped home land line 40 bucks

cable plus internet combo package 99 a month, was paying close to 200 when i had them separate and the movie channels

when food shopping now i look for deals and by the store brand over name brand

one way to save is buy in bulk. and cook at home. fuck, if you try enough, you can make better food at home then you get at places. when you go out, your paying for the service. so, just make the food your self. check out some books, look online. find recipes. and dont just get food in bulk. buy those 48 pack of toilet paper, those 24 pack of paper towels, bulk shampoo and soap. you'll save money in the long run.

i clean my teeth and the bowl with the same brush now...

i can't figure out how to save much. i did switch to the Optimum triple package recently. saves about 30-40 a month. living in the burbs you pretty much have to drive everywhere. having teenagers in activities adds to it. my oldest is driving but she needs help with gas/spending money.

i shop at Sam's so I'm not running for toilet paper every two weeks, guess that helps...

keeping an eye on the thermostat could help. couple degrees here and there, does it help much??? not sure! i use fans all the time but I'm not sure if they help save money being they have to run on electricity just like the ac...

bringing lunch or dinner to work: i always question how much savings is there after doing the shopping, preparing, packaging as opposed to just picking up a 10 dollar pasta dish or 6-7dollar chinese dish... i'm too lazy to sit down and actually figure it out

Alice S. Fuzzybutt

If you buy a few boxes of pasta on sale (say, $1 a piece) and a couple of jars of sauce (say, $1.50) you can have a week's worth of dinners for $5!

I bring sandwiches for lunch/dinner too. $2.50 for a loaf of the whole grain bread on sale and a package of cheap cold cuts (on sale, maybe, $2.99). Again, a weeks worth of meals for $5.49.

I do this and wind up getting SICK of pasta and sandwiches so I wind up ordering out anyway after a while!

I've always been "poor" and lived simply.
I have never bought a new car, my current car cost $500 and I've had it almost a year.
I eat once a day.
I roll my own cigarettes.
I don't buy stuff. Just necessities. I bought stuff for the last year or so, and now I am done. I have what I want.
I have always shopped at thrift stores for clothes, spending about fifty bucks every two or three years.
I freeball, so I am still wearing underwear that I got in highschool, since I hardly use it.
I tightened my belt today, the belt I paid 7 dollars for three years ago, because I have lost some weight that I gained while I had a job that required two meals a day. Very physical.
I quit that job 6 weeks ago.
I'll get a new one next month.
Times aren't affecting me because I've always lived well below my means.

It's from a service that is trying to send you something. It does nothing that you can't do on your own for free if you just payed a little extra principle each time you send a check. If you changed your payments around by yourself then the exact same thing would happen.
