Whatever your feelings are about Comcast, you'll be helpless but to fall in love with the media giant's 10 million pixel display at the new Comcast Center in Philadelphia. The media wall covers an area of over 2100 square feet and uses four-millimeter LED lights, packed together as one giant, seamless array. It plays all manner of video, and even cool segments where three-dimensional-looking dancers seem to hover in thin air at five times the resolution of HD television.

Amazing.

Thats like taking a 10 MegaPixel CCD array [4,000 x 2,500 pixels?; trying this is my head]which fits in pocket cams and making it the size of a house.

I'd love to see that in motion in person.

I'm in and out of this building a couple times of day and it is pretty fucking amazing. There's always about a hundred people who walk in off the street to just stand in the lobby and watch.

I think Comcast can afford it.

That is an image on a TV screen? I thought they were real gymnasts during some opening ceremony!

Unbelievable!

I wonder if it randomly cuts out in picture and sound like my Comcast does. or maybe it randomly turns off once a day like my comcast does. literally, worst company ever.

Yeah, it's a sweet display. There's a video of it somewhere. I like the acrobats the most.

What time should I pick you up?

We'll get dinner - go see the pixels ...

hang out in robes. See what develops...

very impressive...but why would they need to make the ceiling in the elevator bank so high it cuts into so much of the video screen? makes zero sense. poor planning while spending so much money.

They installed the screen after they built the building, I presume. Comcast isn't going to build a new office just to accommodate their vanity display.

It's not a mistake, just part of the lobby's decor. It's like a Nasdaq Building in Times Square. Why did they put all those windows in the way?

i don't think it's nearly the same. at comcast it cuts 40% into the bottom of the display 3 times. it's a tremendous chunk, especially if they're going on about how detailed the display is.

I went and visited the new Comcast Building while in Philadelphia over the holiday.

It really is a sight to see.

I took some pictures on my 8.1 mega pixel camera, so these really don't do the crisp, clearness that the 10 million look like.

Here is what the lobby wall looks like when the screen is off:

Then the Sun, Earth and Mars show up:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/Furtherman/S8001389.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/Furtherman/S8001390.jpg

A beach scene:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/Furtherman/S8001394.jpg

Then an acrobat comes down from the ceiling, which really got a lot of "wows" and gasps, because she looked real it was so 3-D, like she was actually there flipping around in front of this beach scene.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/Furtherman/S8001399.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/Furtherman/S8001400.jpg

Some others:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/Furtherman/S8001404.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/Furtherman/S8001406.jpg

And now here is some video I took... watch it fade out.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gXyifWQaVT8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gXyifWQaVT8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

They had a Christmas show every hour, and it was OK... I personally prefer the 'ol lights and music show at Wanamaker's (now Macy's), but it's still cool to check out.

i dont quite understand why there seems to be a receptionist beneath the screen, and why it isn't in an auditorium?

It's in the lobby. You can see it from the street and it's open to the public.
