This information got by me as I had no idea.

Eastwood 'Saddened' By Hackman's Retirement
25 June 2008 5:10 AM, PDT

Actor-turned-director Clint Eastwood has defended his friend Gene Hackman's decision to quit acting - insisting he has earned the right to retire.

Hackman announced in 2004 that he was leaving the entertainment industry for good because he wanted to spend more time with his family.

And although Eastwood regrets that there will never be another film featuring Hackman, he respects his pal's decision and won't try to make him change his mind.

He tells MTV.com, "It is a sad thing. I know his agent and I saw him recently, and he said, 'Can't you talk Gene into coming back?' I said, 'I'd love to see him come back, but I think it's not very nice to ride him.' He's too good an actor not to be performing, but by the same token, he probably thinks that's enough."

I had no idea he had retired.

One of my all time favorites, as I'm sure he is to many here who love movies.

His last movie was... Welcome to Mooseport!?

Oh no, Gene.... you can't go out on that. GENE! Find a good script and go out on top!

I never knew he retired but it's true I haven't seen him for years. I have nearly every movie he made in the 70's. He was the biggest star in hollyweird for almost a decade, a big accomplishment for an regular average looking guy. Sorta a Hoffman or Daniel Day Lewis thing.

I miss GHack

I had heard this some time ago but had hoped it would be a Jordan-like or Clemens-like "retirement".

I'm with Mojo for a change: love the Hackman.

I just saw a kickass "off the radar" Hackman flick about a week ago that I had never seen before...

"For a change?!?"

We're government punks and we love the Beach Boys, power pop and Hackman.

That pretty much covers all the bases.

I have always wanted to see him in a Coen Brothers movie. He has worked with Wes Anderson, but I think the Coens could use him better. Especially if they use him in one of their off beat comedies.

I hope Mr. Hackman is OK; usually actors "retire" when they are ill. I hope he really just wants to enjoy his Golden Years.

Does he really need to be defended?

And couldn't any actor retire at any point? (if we care about it is another story)

I will miss him. He is a wonderful actor!

Hackman has been and always will be my all time favorite actor.

I am sad to hear that he his quitting the profession that he perfected.

I really hope that he finds the desire to return.

Add me to the list that didnt know he was retired, maybe he just wants to enjoy what hes made for himself, still you would think he could take bit roles or even a major role every couple of years.

Oh well enjoyed the films gene, have fun in retirement.

Every one that enjoys a fine film realizes this fact, you have seen almost every sports movie steal from it. It is also one of hackmans finest performances, even garnered him an oscar nod if I remember correctly.

Not at all.

Hoosiers is a great movie, but as an entertaining sports film it's boring as hell.

From today's IMDB trivia question:

Was the first choice to play Mike Brady on "The Brady Bunch" (1969).

Whaaa?!

Although there definitely wouldn't be any ball playing in the house and Alice would probably have been fired.
