I'm looking for help from anyone who's dealt with parking at Shea Stadium. I'm going to the Yanks/Mets game on Friday at Shea and driving there from Jersey. What are some of my options? I've heard that parking there is a nightmare. One option I've been given is to park at woodside and take a train over. Any other options? Anyone with experience please help out.

if you have to goto flushing

parking in woodside is probaby ideal ... you can catch the express 7 or railroad, and be at the stadium in a few minutes ... you can goto donovan's for a burger or sean og for a pint or two

or anywhere along the 7 train, is good deal ... there are great pubs, wonderful restaurants and cheap eats ... i think any metered parking on the street is till 7:00, and the parking under the el might be a good bet

if you get to shea (http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/nym/ballpark/driving_parking.jsp) early enough, parking at a lot shouldn't be too bad ... 14 bucks

Put a 19'' TV on top of your toilet and just simulate the Shea experience from the comfort of your home.

Well said. I concur.

Also a good idea. Although if you wanna get that yankee stadium feel, put the tv in the bathtub, and place a ladder over your toilet, where u will need to sit and enjoy the game. I also recommend placing any food you want in the sink at least one night before game time. :smoke:

I'll reiterate getting there early. Parking has improved a bit recently as they've opened up some new space next to Citifield. But for the Yankees, it's always tough. Oh, and it's $15, not $14.
Coming from Jersey, I'd take the Grand Central eastbound. There, you can exit for Northern Boulevard and either turn right directly into the "new" lot, or if that's full take the ring road to the two lots underneath the highway at the traffic circle. If you turn left, there are also lots north of Northern Blvd. along the marina which have a lot of space. Of those, the western most lots are easier to get out of after the game. The east ones are a nightmare.
Another alternative is to exit the LIE at 108th Street and park at the Science Center off of 111th street and walk over to Shea, (consult your mapquest for exact directions) or any of the streets off of Roosevelt Avenue between 114th and 108th. The bonus of that street parking is that it's residential, unmetered, free, and a short walk- again, though, get there early.
Lastly, for big games like this, they'll have "remote" parking in Flushing Meadows Park near the Unisphere. You can get to that from the GCP, the LIE, the Van Wyck, or College Point Blvd. If you get to park near the Tennis Center or Unisphere, you can easily walk to Shea. Further away, they run shuttle buses.

Hope that helps!

then occassionally run a power drill or hair dyer to simulate the joy of being next door to laguardia

and if you wanna get that august feel: run the shower 'till it get real nice and steamy and release a swarm of gnats

When going to Shea, I always prefer to park in Manhattan and take the 7 from Grand Central.

I have a "seven-pack" ticket and my friends and I do the same thing for every game...take the BQE to woodside. park in front of "Saints & Sinner's", go in for a few pints and some food. Then take the 7 express for 2 stops to right field. It's the best way to do any game.

(I'll be there before (& after) Saturday's game.
The Breffni is also near the 7 (without express service though)...that's where Gmann works. We'll be making that a stop soon.

If you get there early enough you can park for free under the overpass between the stadium and marina.

Love the Saints and Sinners! There are actually a ton of great Irish pubs in the hood.

I've been wondering where Gmann is. I stopped by the Breffini the other day: closed. And it looks like it's been closed for a while now. I wonder what gives.

Hey, I had another idea. I don't know where in Jersey you're coming from, but you can take a ferry from Atlantic Highlands right to Shea. This site says that the ticket packages are sold out, but that doesn't mean that you can't take the ferry back and forth to Shea if you already have tickets.

I'd call and check it out. That's a nice, nice cruise - at least until you turn past Rikers and go up to Shea.

bingo dude... seriously, the way the parking is now, I wouldn't even bother driving. Plus you are talking about a Friday summer weekend. Traffic is going to be brutal

if he is coming from jersey, jsut go through the lincoln tunnel, get right on 40th st.. park in a lot or something... jsut on the train... not surre wher ein jersey you live, but you could bus it to the Port Authority, and walk up a block to the 7 in times square (that's what i do)

another option could be parking in Hoboken and take the path into the city...

I have sunday tix and I always drive.
The earlier you get there, the better.

Theoretically there is free parking under the elevated roadway, but I have never understood why its legal there- it doesnt seem to be spots.

There is parking right next to stadium, which is where they are building citifield, and difficult to get in.

Across Roosevelt Ave, near the LIRR is also a larger lot. And they also charge to park in flushing meadow park and take a tram.

the official parking is $15.

The triple birthday was a couple weeks ago at the Breffini, the place closed down a day or two later.

Ok thanks for all the help. I got a better idea of where to go now.
By the way, Am I allowed to bring my own bottle of water into the park? I can't find any decisive answer online.

Park at Metropark in Edison for $5, then take the train into Penn Station. #7 from there.

Or, park for free at any lot on the Raritan Valley Line, train to NYC, then #7.

I can give the definitive answer here.

Mets prohibit glass bottles, alcohol and hard coolers.
You can bring food, plastic bottled non-alcohol drinks galore.
I've brought in water, 2 liter bottles of diet coke etc without issue.
(and my own peanuts- no $6 bag for me)
You will have to go in the "bag" line however, which is no biggie.

Also, do not bring a pen knife with you; they do wand with metal detectors, and no reason to lose something like a small knife cause you forgot to leave it home.

i agree!

- donovan's on the corner of 58th and roosevelt ave. outstanding burgers!
- reasonably easy to find free parking on the side streets near the Woodside 7 train station.
- about 20 minutes to the stadium on the local train, much quicker on the express.
- after the game, stop by one of the many woodside pubs for a pint before collecting the car (although i wouldn't recommend sean og's unless you're straight off the boat from the emerald isle, from what i've heard).
