Time Warner killed off newsgroup access permanently tonight, so now I'm looking for alternative access - people say Giganews is good, are there any others I might want to consider? pros and cons?

I use Giganews, by far it's the best I've ever used.

To answer the op:
I bought 110 gigs of access through astraweb after this happened.

$25 for 110 gigs, they don't expire and you can use them at your own pace. I was thinking about doing an unlimited per month thing but I really don't use it enough to warrant it. This plan works out well if you download less that 50 gigs a month. The gigs are tied to your account and will be around for as long as you want.

It was just easier to use that reasoning to completely remove access instead of claiming rampany piracy because kiddy porn makes more waves then Prince's music getting traded.
The kicker is they didn't lower the monthly price of their internet access so now people are paying more for less - yay for consumer fleecing!
that astraweb sounds like a great deal, I normally use NGs to get a hold of copies of my favorite radio show (because recording them myself never works out well) and the occassionaly movie or whatever that has little to no seeds on the torrent sites. I'll definitely check out all the suggestions - thanks!

yup; there have been plenty of newsgroups that have been blocked by ISP's.

I use easynews.com - it's like $10/month for 15 gigs.

I can second giganews. My usenet access got killed by TimeWarner too, no notice, just some bandwidth throttling issues and then it was gone.
Giganews has a $7 a month option, which is about exactly what i need.
Also, pinchy rocks. Seriously, thank you and you know why.
