“The Wackness” centers upon a troubled high school student named Luke Shapiro (Josh Peck)—a teenage marijuana dealer who forms a friendship with Dr. Jeffrey Squires (Ben Kingsley), a psychiatrist and kindred lost soul. When the doctor proposes Luke trade him marijuana for therapy sessions, the two begin to explore both New York City and their own depression.

I went to see a screening of this movie tonight and thought it was fantastic.

The movie won the Audience Award at Sundance, and through the first 10 or 15 minutes I thought it was just because of nostalgia. The movie takes place in 1994 and they shoehorned so many fucking 90s references into the beginning of the movie. But the movie quickly moved away from that to the wonderfully written story it is. There's so many deep moments that quickly turn into these hilariously awkward spots. And the story feels very realistic, which a lot of "teen love" movies never are.

Also, the movie's soundtrack is fucking dope. It's almost all early 90s hip hop, so the movie is filled with Wu-tang and Biggie.

So, yeah, I highly recommend this movie. Probably the 2nd best movie I've seen this year (behind 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days).

Anyone seen this movie? I'm watching it right now and I gotta say it's a cool movie. The story of a kid dealing drugs in the summer of 94 after graduating high school. Good character piece, and the lead chick is hot.

Famke Jansen, Mary Kate Olsen, or this chick? (Olivia Thirbly)

Her. Olivia.

Although Famke is hot, and Mary Kate plays a dirty hippy.

And that was the fat kid from that Nick show?

the fact that a nickelodeon actor held his own with Gandhi shows that he wont always be doing a bad Abbott and Costello routine, meanwhile the other one did superhero movie. but all in all a great movie

I enjoyed this movie. But I thought Ben Kingsley's character was so ill-formed and over acted. He's a great actor but I thought he did a poor job.

The teen love story is the best part because its realistic. And the fat kid from Nickelodeon is great, I think he'll have a decent career.

And the soundtrack is dope.
