A fellow bartender made a great case for "Bigger, longer and uncut" to be the greatest musical of all time. I rewatched it and it really was a great musical. Is it better than the "soud of music" or "West side story"? Well in my opinion yes.

I know I've seen SP:BL&U more times than either of those other two and enjoyed it more if that counts for anything.

Blues Brothers is better. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, too.

But I see the case for it.

Great topic...i dont have much experience with musicals, but that South Park movie (as well as Team America) are really just brilliant works of art.....seriously.

Aside from the tongue in cheek critique of the government and social institutions altogether, it sends up the very type of art form it takes- that is, musicals!

great story, well crafted, and brilliantly written.

SP:BLAU is a really well done musical with some really complex arrangements (I blank on the title, but check out the song with the three songs overlapping in it), but I don't know about the greatest musical ever. Are Matt and Trey better writers than Sondheim, Gilbert and Sullivan, or other classic musical writers?

"Lease" is better.

I wouldn't consider it a musical because its animated. If you include that, you have to include every disney movie ever made, as well as movies like 'an american tale' and 'all dogs go to heaven', which no one would consider a musical.

Well let's consider those musicals and reconsider. I've always thought The Lion King rises above any of the Disney films of the last 30 years, and I would choose Pinocchio to be tops during the 9 old men era. SP:BLAU is as good or better, but I would hesitate to compare against eras. So in conclusion it's better than stupid Moulin Rouge.
