Anyone see this weeks Issue?
They list the top movies, music and tv shows of the last 25 years - based on achievement, not popularity perse.
The top 100 movie list was pretty good. Chosen for innovation as much as quality.
1) Pulp Fiction
2) Lord of Rings trilogy
3) Titanic
4) Blue Velvet
5) Toy Story.......
But how could they omit The Shawshank Redemption??
The TV list was also reasonable but i disagreed with listing Golden Girls and Married with Children as 77th and 94th respectively. Both were groundbreaking and very funny!
The music list ...well this was just ridiculous.
Top 3 albums of the past 25 years ( achievement not sales)
1) Purple Rain
2)The miseducation of Lauren Hill
3) Achtung Baby
Who wrote the music list - Spike Lee??

Actually, I got the impression that they weren't basing their list on solely quality or achievement, but also the "iconic" status of their choices and their cultural impact. They even called the list "The New Classics", and not the "Top 50."
Also, they state at the beginning of the issue that they limited big names to one or two spots on the list, which is why you have Pulp Fiction but no Reservoir Dogs.

I hate any list that combines multiple movies under one entry. Especially when people say the best movie of all time is Godfather I&II. You can put them at 1&2 but it seems massively unfair to combine 2 great films. Especially when you choose to leave out III.

There were some serious pockets of retardation in the lists, and all the lists seemed really heavy on stuff from the last few years.
