My friend Nick is a HUGE RUSH fan. So this last Christmas I bought him and his daughter matching RUSH t-shirts.

I know, a BLACK guy likes RUSH?
I've known him for, what, 16 years? He's not actually African- American. He was born in England and his parents are Jamaican. He never became an actual citizen until he married Cris.
I keep forgetting to ask him what his "status" is. (He'd laugh at the word "status.") He's always been a nerdlinger to me!!!

I'm not a Rush fan, but for some reason, that pic makes me feel really really happy.

I was expecting a youtube of "Tom Sawyer" live or something.
I got Bobby McFerrin with his kid in a "I have black friends" post instead.
You should have gotten them gift cards to panera and dunkin donuts!

She's more of a "Triumph" fan. Some people are particular about which Canadian power trio they follow.

that and steely dan.
How is Tony doing in the standings? Life has been crazy of late so I've not been able to keep up with NASCAR. As a new fan to the sport, Watkins Glenn last year was probably the best race I've seen.

In the chase hunt. It doesn't make a difference how well or how bad he does, aslong as he's top-12 by race 26.

I would have guessed you were a Rush fan from the fact that you used the title to one their songs as a board name.

I guess I'll go ahead and be the Rush skeptic here. They've always left me cold. The music is, well, accomplished, I suppose, though it seems so technical and so regimented that it seems to me to have a certain sense of aloofness to it. And the lyrics...yes, Neal, we know you read Ayn Rand, I read some Ayn Rand myself, but if you're over 21 and still think that there's something to be admired and that should influence your own work there, I can't really take you all that seriously.

I've told him this several times but he has to get up early to be an IT Specialist at Brooklyn College.
I'm sorry, Furie, I used "status" incorrectly. He's always been Nick to me (and a nerd second). I was just wondering if he's Afro-British-American?

BTW, has Neil Peart talked to Geddy about constantly hanging out with O&A and R&F? I mean, they are gonna shave his head one of these days.

I can't find the clip on YouTube but my favorite Rush moment is from Harvey Birdman in the episode Blackwatch Plaid.
Phil enters his office to find it has been burgled, plundered, and purloined – "Ha-ha... loins." He's missing a number of things only he can see, such as a baby grand piano and a fourteen foot golden Buddha. When they are not returned even after he covers his eyepatch, he sets up a color coded threat system and installs security cameras.
Birdman tries to talk to the paranoid Phil, but he accuses him of supporting the thief, and of not working hard. Phil calls everyone in and bumps up the terror level to... BLACKWATCH PLAID!!!
Phil finds a video of Bear moving about at high speeds and calls everyone in, believing he knows who the culprit is, and shows everyone a sketch of Bear crossed with Osama bin Laden. He raises the threat level to the maximum: the cover of Rush's seminal album Moving Pictures.

I don't think I've ever heard one Rush song.
I'm hoping to go to the Baltimore show in a couple of weeks.
I'm already working on my show beard.
HO-LEE SHIT.
I've seen Rush a bunch of times when I was in high school and college but that's been some 20 years ago now. I always thought they were great in that they could replicate the songs note for note, but their performances always seem rote and mechanical.
But last night, they looked like they were actually having FUN while performing. They're really showing off their funny side with video clips in the background of with Neil faking a guitar solo, Alex mimicking Geddy on bass and vocals and Geddy playing drums. And for the first time they're revamping their hits a bit. Without giving anything away, the Intro to "Working Man" totally threw me off and was incredibly cool.
And for guys pushing 60, they have incredible energy and can still destroy anyone younger on their respective instruments.

That's awesome. I'm sure I'm in a tiny minority, but Caress of Steel was, is, and will always be my favorite. 2112 would be next.
If haven't already seen it, check out the documentary "Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage". It pops up on VH1 and/or Palladium from time to time. It's really well done and has a lot of stuff from the old days.

Palladium usually runs it as well.
