I know, but I think Sayid had the same uniform on.... so it could end up being him.
why was the 'roger workman' uniform in a house with a babys crib?
i hvent finished reading this thread yet, so maybe someone answered it already,
but I'm pretty sure that the uni that Sayid picked up said "Horace, Mathematician".
I noticed and thought that weird, since if any Dharma people had read it (before they discovered him) they would have known it wasn't Horace.
Speaking of Horace, am I right that we didn't see him during the finale? wouldn't you think in all of that chaos he would have been prominent, even if Radzinsky was "taking over"?
GREAT episode, too much to ponder.
This was posted elsewhere- that Jacob/Esau issue is reminiscent of this:

reading thru this thread i find it hilarious that people are ok with crippled folks walking and supposedly dead people walking around (or their image being stolen by evil entities) but a chick falling down a hole and surviving pushes them over the edge. um, it's a wacky island and kooky things happen.

K.C. has the best Lost posts
in the first clip with Jacob, the guy in dark clothes used "loophole" to indicate a way to get out of an agreement (or contract in some way)... I always thought that "loophole" was a more modern (more recent than the time frame they were depicting) term... does this term go back that far?
Had another thought today.
Tabula Rasa
Yes, it was the name of the third episode of the series, but the term takes the nurture side of the nature vs. nuture argument.
This is important, because nature vs. nurture seemed to be the crux of the dispute between the Smoke Monster and Jacob.
Smokey seemed to believe man was endowed with certain destructive qualities, while Jacob seemed to believe in progress.
The white title card at the end of the finale after the bomb detonates...maybe that's symbolic of a clean slate.

its not the purge, that was in 1992
from a look at other parts of the map it looks like there might have been incidents in 1980 and 81
then dharma was disbanded in 1987
but the di continued somehow till 92 where the purge wiped out the dharma island dwellers

* Caduceus station believe to have been abandoned due to AH/MDG incident of 1985

Blast door map notations

The jigsaw puzzles confirms that "AH" stands for Alvar Hanso; however, it does not explain what "MDG" means.
A commonly accepted theory is that "MDG" stands for the DeGroots, which leads to speculation that the DeGroots split from Alvar Hanso or that both came into conflict together with an unmentioned third entity. However, it is unclear what the "M" before "DG" would stand for since the DeGroot's names are Gerald and Karen. Another likely suspect is that the "M" stands for "Mittlewerk".
Ampere-hour and attohenry share the "AH" abbreviation, and both concern electromagnetism and the Faraday Constant.
MDG may refer to "magnetic DeGaussing."

Damon Lindeloff was on the 'Comics on Comics' webcast show recently, and did like a 40 minute interview that was really revealing about behind the scenes stuff with the show.
The two biggest things I learned though were:
-They had a four season story arc for Mr. Eko, but Adewale told them he didn't want to stay in Hawaii and asked to be written off. That's a new explanation of what happened there. Originally I had heard the guy's parents died and he wanted to take a break from acting. I guess both could be true. Still, four seasons? Damn...I love Mr. Eko.
-They are now saying they had a Libby story wrap, approached Cynthia Watros, and she refuses to do the show because she's pissed they killed her off, so they're not going to wrap Libby's story unless she agrees to come back, because there's no satisfactory way to do so.
They change their excuse on this constantly. First it was the writer's strike, then it was they didn't think it was important, now it's that she won't come back (which is odd, because she showed up in the Michael episode in Season 4 for like one line).

I would be very very surprised if Watros was really SOOoooo angry that she's simply refusing to return to one of the biggest shows in the history of television.
I suspect she's holding out for more money.... or perhaps she was involved in an on-set romance that got ugly or .... SOMETHING.
It makes no sense that the "reason" she's refusing to act on the show is because they no longer asked her to act on the show.

She probably didn't like where the writers were going with her character. She refused to believe that the audience would buy the fact that Hugo could get her...even on a magical island.

They did say that they were SO happy with how (the actor who plays) Faraday accepted the importance of his being killed, and they specifically said of all the actors whose characters had to die, he was the only one who understood it and embraced it.
I took that as a slight to Libby and Anal Usia.

Didn't you already do that joke a few pages back?
Doc Jensen on EW posted some of the most frequent questions he was getting submitted in his "What questions do you need answered by the show to make it an enjoyable end of the series" thing he posed to the fans.
I'll take a stab at them.
Where did Claire go?
Ultimately, I'm not sure this is even going to matter if what I think happened at the end of Season 5 happened. Plus, I think it was kind of discreetly answered...Claire died in the barracks raid in Season 4, but was saved by the Smoke Monster, and didn't become self aware of her new found being possessed-ed-ness until she met Christian in the episode where she disappeared.
Her purpose was to get Kate back to the island, because Kate's path was to save Ben, thus facilitating Jacob's death.
What's the deal with The Island's Egyptian-themed ancient history?
My guess is that the Monster was spawned from the actions of some ancient Egyptian temple cult in tribute to one of the Egyptian gods (wasn't Anubis praying to the Monster?). I don't think they'd go with the idea that it was a creation of an Egyptian god...they really seem to not want to cross that religious threshold with this series. I think it's be more of a faith through science explanation...people who believed in the god did something that created the Monster.
Where are stewardess Cindy and the kids?
The temple.
What's the deal with The Numbers?
Valenzetti Equation. Darlton already said they can't address it on the show because it's impossible to explain and keep the casual audience interested, so they likely won't address this. The Lost Experience gives you the answer, though. The videos and everything are still up on Lostpedia.
What's Libby's backstory
As we've discussed a hundred times, they're not answering this question, so neither will I.
What's Richard Alpert's backstory?
Arrived on the Black Rock, was anointed as some sort of acolyte to Jacob. My guess is that the explanation given for why he doesn't age is that he was some how freed from the flow of time.
What is the secret of The Island's power (time travel, healing properties, etc.)
Damon Lindeloff made an interesting comment in that interview I was referring to a few posts up about how he didn't like how audiences wanted to demystify everything, and specifically pointed to the Star Wars Prequels trying to explain the Force through introducing the idea of midochlorions as a way that demystifying it ruined it or made it worse.
I really got the impression that while they're going to give answered in-depth about all the players in the game, that they're going to leave a lot about why the island is the way it is unanswered.
What is The Monster?
A judicial entity. How it came to be...I'll stick with the explanation I gave in the Egyptian answer.
Why could Walt do the weird things he could do?
This for me is still the toughest question to answer in the series. Right now, I'm going to lean towards Jacob visited Walt when he was younger, and it stems from that. At one point, I thought the explanation would be that Walt will travel back in time towards the end of this series and die on the island and all the visions of him are manifestations from him dying int he past, but that seems unlikely now.
What is Jacob's backstory?
I see a Holy Grail/Cup of Life style explanation to this one. Jacob is going to be an emissary of something linked to Christian mythology who arrives on the island and discovers something that preserves him within the vicinity of the island.

One thing you didn't mention is the discovery of what that 4 toed statue is.
from the official Lost episode recap (http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/index?pn=recap#t=162212&d=201648):
And as the camera pulls back, we see what we've been waiting to see since we first glimpsed that four-toed foot over three years ago... the towering, majestic statue of the Egyptian goddess Taweret
so we finally KNOW what it is.
Doc Jenson gave a good link to Taweret- http://www.touregypt.net/featurestories/taweret.htm
The Great Female - was the ancient Egyptian goddess of maternity and childbirth, protector of women and children. Like Bes, she was both a fierce demonic fighter as well as a popular deity who guarded the mother and her newborn child.
....
In the Book of the Dead Taweret, the 'Lady of Magical Protection', was seen as a goddess who guided the dead into the afterlife. As with her double nature of protector and guardian, she was also a guard to the mountains of the west where the deceased entered the land of the dead. Many of the deities relating to birth also appear in the underworld to help with the rebirth of the souls into their life after death.
some interesting stuff.
especially in light of the work that Ethan and Juliette were supposed to do, and how there were problems with childbirth on the island.

Do we know WHY the crazy magnetic action started sucking every thing into the dig-hole? What was the catalyst for that action?
They drop the bomb... it falls to the bottom... it doesn't explode... but then, within 5 seconds... the magnetism starts. What gives?

Plus remember in Season 2, Desmond throws out the line "every time I walk past that wall, my filings hurt."
And then Eko shows Charlie how the concreted in wall had a magnetic pull on the cross he wore around his neck in the finale of that season.

but that doesnt really show that it was magnetic before the bomb went off. the filling proves that the bomb didnt create the aberration, although it might have strengthened it by freeing it from the bedrock

True. But if you take all of it into consideration. The effects before the incident and the effects after the incident, I think it makes a strong case for the incident being the electromagnetism, instead of the bomb.
Whatever the bomb did, it's something new that's been introduced into the equation. Could have made it worse...could have eradicated it.
I do wonder whether or not Desmond turning the key was him detonating another hydrogen bomb (or perhaps Jughead, before all this other stuff ended up taking place).
Wasn't there some type of radioactive symbol over where the keyhole was in Season 2? And that could have been added as the fail safe once DHARMA originally concreted the magnetism back in...if it breaks out, blow everything up.
Not that much of it matters now, but it could give some insight into what detonating the bomb actually did.
Presumably the energy was destroyed at the end of Season 2 with the failsafe. So it's possible Jack succeeded.

I'm not following.
This area was NOT a magnetic freakshow at all before Jack arrived. They're all there.... nothing out of the ordinary.... then, after they drop the (seemingly) inactive bomb down the hole, there's a MASSIVE show of magnetic force. I mean... at one point... they try to escape in a jeep, and even though they are standing on the gas pedal, the jeep is still in the tractor beam and being dragged towards the hole. Heavy metal objects are being pulverized and twisted.
I'm wondering what was the catalyst.

DHARMA was drilling...Sawyer told Chang to stop the drill, and Chang told him it wouldn't stop, so Jack drops the bomb...nothing happens, and then the drill breaks the plain that frees the electromagnetic energy.

I thought the Swan was built after the incident in order to have a way to safely release the electromagnetic energy... and they needed someone to push the button to make that happen.

The orientation film basically corroborates what happened. They were building the Swan, released the energy, and had to turn the Swan into a containment station.

so I'm finally all caught up. A few thioughts....
the "war" that is imminent - who are the players? Widmore vs the others?
Jack's father - he seems intertwined with many of the players, and so is Jacob, apparently. They seem connected.
Claire - what happened to her?
"new" Locke - that's the guy who wants to kill Jacob for whatever reason - maybe to get out of a contract since he needed to find a loophole in order to do it. This needs to be discussed more in Season 6 (it better be)
Most importantly, can we get everyone back in the same time already? Enough with the "20 Years ago...30 Years Later" stuff.
