i've noticed lately that there have been alot of cases of animal cruelty in the news lately

now i know Hippo will not agree with this and i guess its not really animal cruelty but still...

"Luck ran out for about a dozen pigs who escaped their flooded farm, swam through raging floodwaters and scrambled atop a sandbag levee in southeastern Iowa. Des Moines County sheriff's officials shot the pigs Tuesday, not long after they reached the levee."

http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/weather/06/18/midwest.flooding.pigs.ap/index.html

i mean come on...they went through all that shit...just let them live.

then there was the person that threw a bag of kittens onto the highway

the guy who threw his dog from 5 stories because he was going through marraige probelms

the dog they found wandering around with fish hooks attached to his collar

they dog that was severly beaten and his teeth filed off

and this is just recently...why is this news because i dont want to read about it (even though i end up doing it) and what is with people?

i'm thinking that because the news isnt covering the war as much, and there was Mike Vick going crazy on those dogs, sounds like it is enough to keep these stories up, out and in the open

I remember hearing fairly recently about a guy around where I live who was torturing and killing cats in his apartment. I'm not a big cat person but that broke my heart.

Anyone who tortures or hurts animals like that is just scum. They're WEAK, and that's all they are. They take out their crap on animals that can't do anything about it because they're too much of a pussy to deal with who's really bothering them.

Assholes... I really can't stand that shit.

I would feel no remorse for taking their brand of torture and doing it onto them instead.

Almost every night around six, my neighbor tosses peanuts off of his balcony into the woods that are like 15 feet behind our apartments and then shoots a BB gun at the squirrels that show up to eat them. It's a little strange, but I haven't actually seen him hit one yet so I don't really know if he is killing them or what. It's such a strange hobby that it doesn't really bother me, but if I start seeing carcasses laying around I might have to figure out how to ask him to cut the shit. I'm new here so I don't want to rock the boat. At this point, having not seen him kill anything, it is just kind of comical.

BAXTER!!!

It's hilarious to see the comments for clips of that scene and people flipping out like it's a real dog.

How is it cruelty to dispatch animals that are threatening a levee?

i didnt say it was...i actually said its probably not animal cruelty

i just said that the pigs went through all that shit to stay alive and they just shot them right away, just seemed fucked up...and yeah i know they were eventually gonna die anyway

It's only cruel if there wasn't a delicious BBQ afterwards to pick up everyone's spirits.

exactly...they justified it by saying that the pigs were going to be butchered anyway but then they "let them lay there like roadkill" at least gets some chops out of them

30 Days this week had a Deer Hunter from North Carolina placed with a family of PETA members from CA. While PETA people are over the top nuts sometimes, some of the shit the showed was pretty fucking disturbing.

Problem is, this stuff always bothers me (Super Size Me, Fast Food Nation, etc.) for awhile, but then I fall back into devouring Steak and Burgers without caring. I wish it would stick for longer...

Isn't being a deer hunter markedly different from the US system of agriculture exposed in those movies?

Yes. I should have been more clear, but the bulk of the show was not about his deer hunting, but being exposed to how animals are treated at "Factory" farms. Specifically cows and calves.

Yeah, our commercial agriculture in this country is really an atrocity on so many levels. I appreciate some of PETA's motives in this regard, but I feel like they hurt that cause with their extremity. It's kind of like the global warming issue, which may detract from the very real issue of acid rain because of the lack of scientific evidence behind the argument.

pigs we get what pigs deserve

=

I found parts of animals behind a store, and they had obviously been torn apart, and much had been eaten, and from the shape of the bite marks, definately human.

KFC rules.

That is that guys hobby which is weak. We have bear hunting.

Bear hunting here consists of someone choosing a piece of land and leaving a travel trailer on it. Said person "baits" the area for weeks with gummy bears or whatever bears like to eat. When the bears are comfortable with their routine of eating gummy bears (yes it is ironic) the hunter spends a weekend at his trailer and shoots a bear at the next feeding time.

It is regulated by the state, but I still think that the way it is done is cheating.

You should leave a Dale Earnhardt shirt for that redneck under your balcony then shoot him when he picks it up. (Singing "Your Cheatin' Heart" of course)
