According to sources, According to sources, Tiger Woods has made a decision to go ahead with yet another knee surgery.
He experienced a small stress fracture in his left leg about two weeks before the U.S. Open, which was causing him the pain, and ultimately the doctors feel that he needs ACL surgery and rest to get him back to 100%.
Sources added that Tiger is in great spirits and wants to ensure that he comes back even better and more healthy than before.

I think that if I had a bazillion dollars and a knockout wife, I'd be in great spirits too, even with a bum knee.

People are going to refer to this weekend as the 'time he won the Open on a broken leg'.
Although courageous, i think it'll be a little overblown.

I just read that his ACL's been torn since last July. If true, he torn his ACL and then went on a huge winning streak including winning the FedEx cup, and one Major.

He admitted he was faking it on the highlight reel.

I don' think this guy is faking it at all. Hell we complained like hell that our muscles are sore from playing two games of softball. If this guy had the surgery and then WALKED all those miles too soon after, then yes he is going to re-injure himself.
I don't think any of this was overblown. If he was in pain and it showed...so?
I am all for Tiger taking some time off to fix himself because it SEEMS like he can't lose. But seriously, when we look back at some of the greatest athletes of all time in all sports, his will be at the top for golf...most likely for over 100-200 years.
I mean, he won the US Open with a torn ACL and fracture in his leg for christ's sake! How much more do you need to see?
This guy is the best ever. Only time will have him beat all of Nickalus' record.

I don't think he was faking it or lying about the ACL tear happening last summer either.
And the fact that we went onto a great spree of tourneys and wins is unbelievable.

I meant it by the fact that the Post headline was 'He won it on one leg!!!'
no, it was a stress fracture. and he's playing golf.
when Byron Leftwich finished a football game on one leg and had to be carried down the field by his teammates, that was incredible.
Tiger was awesome and courageous too but 10 years from now people will say, 'Remember the time Tiger won the Open on one leg!!!' It'll be exaggerated.

ok first off, it was 2 stress fractures and a ruptured ACL, and Ill take it based on this comment that you have not spent much time hitting golf balls. I love how people act like golf is not physical. Picture it this way: A major league hitter going up for at bats with 2 stress fractures and a ruptured ACL. You know its usually more swing force on the body during a golf swing because most people do it harder. Believe me, golf takes alot out of you and uses way more phisical ability in the legs and back then you think
and you walk a good 4 miles while swinging close to 200 times.

I finished a football game on a torn ACL. put me on the cover of the post.
Point taken. I just think the hyperbole of 'playing on one leg' will be overblown in time. Its not like he was limping down the fairway using the club as a cane. he even said it would hurt AFTER he made contact with the ball. Very impressive feat to overcome but not as amazing at it will be remembered I think.

ironically, he actually did have to do that a few times, especially toward the end of the second and third rounds before he started to take pain med. His driver esp he used cause usually it was after that. And tiger woods swings a club like 140 MPH right onto that knee and shin. it really is alot worse then most people think, esp with his particular swing.
and he also didnt say til after all the shit that was wrong. he tried to downplay it so it wouldnt overtake the event

Especially professional golfers. Your average amateur pretty much swings from their arms (I'm one of them), but golfers really use their legs and back to get more torque out of their body to hit the ball far.
And the 4 miles you mentioned has to be multiplied by 5 for the five rounds he played. So in five days he was walked at least 20 miles, plus having to do the swings.

and you swing way more then just your shots, esp with warm ups and everything.
Back to the original point. Ive recently gotten to where Im using my body and putting more turn into my swing, and just since then my backk, and specifically the outside of my left shin are twice as sore now. I cant imagine how it would feel swinging like he does.

One of my biggest golf problems is my inability to consistently turn my body for the swing. Instead, I usually just shift my weight from back to forward rather than turning. It doesn't help that I have a weak back.
When I played in Oregon, we had caddies for three rounds, and my caddie mentioned a stat concerning the amount of turn the body a pro has versus and amateur, and it was amazing. And Tiger's amount compared to the average pro was even more incredible.

i have some back problems too. Bend your knees a little more and let your shoulders turn a little further, itll put more on the shoulders and knees and help some.

actually i blew and didn't play the entire game.
alright, im impressed. but maybe Tiger would have supported Casey Martin a little more if he had to play his whole career in that much pain like him. Every time that guy played was impressive and courageous.

The difference was that Casey Martin wanted to use a cart because of his physical impairment. Tiger didn't seek anything to help with his impairment. Instead, he played the game as everyone else did and walked the whole time.
If Tiger had taken special privileges because of his injury, then I'd agere with you.

it was one tournament!!! as hard as it was, he will heal and not have to deal with it his whole life like Martin did. Tiger would want a cart if he had to do it for the rest of his career obviously.

Actually the ACL tear was since last July, so it was a number of tournaments.
And, Tiger would retire if he got the same ailment that Martin did. For most pro golfers they are very strict about the rules, and will penalize themselves if a penalty is required under the rules.
Since the rules require walking, and if he had a permanent ailment that stopped him walking, he would retire.

and just to address this. i asked my friend chris, who played his entire sr year at MLB with a torn ACL, and he told me he never woulda been able to hit a golf ball with it cause that type of knee motion is what buckled it. Anytime he would go down on the field from it, it was from the same type of rotation you put swinging. it was straight lines and shit he could do ok. this kid is a football coach and he told me he thinks its easier to play football then swing a club like tiger does with that problem
