i rarely ever cry, but tonight i did and it was wierd.
i was at my nephews playoff little league game. 8-9 year olds. when i played in this same league it was about the kids having fun. coaches wanted to win, but they never got serious. totally different now and i knew this as i've seen a bunch of his games. but today a ton of arguing between coaches and complaining to the poor 17 year old ump who had to do the whole game himself..balls/strikes and plays at every base. the guy got yelled at all game long.
anyway...my nephews team is up 4-3 in the last inning at his team is in the field with 2 outs and a guy at 3rd. the smallest kid on the other team gets up and strikes out on a 2-2 count. you could see the life wipe off this little kids face in a flash. just turned white. and of course the tears and depression set in next. he didn't make it 3 feet before his dad was there to give him a huge hug as he just shook in tears. i don't know the kid, but my heart broke for him. i was happy for my nephew and went over to congratulate him, but couldn't get over the kid crying and the dad being there so fast.
i never saw a kid cry when i played Little League. the fucking coaches ruin it for these kids. i made it to my car and tried to say this to my wife and i couldn't hold back the tears. not sure why, but i did. maybe its that i have a 20 month old and never want him in that spot. but it sucked and i actually cried.
not sure why i'm sharing this embarassing moment, but feel free to laugh at me.
