View Full Version : What If We're all Color Blind
I don't know how this thought entered my head, but I was thinking last night if maybe I perception of color is different than someone else's. I mean If I'm looking at a red sign, how do I know it's really red and not someone else's perception of blue? Since I know what red looks like to me, I would never question it. Like if I was looking at a tomato and know in my head that it's red as does another person, but we see 2 completely different colors. The same would go for the way different colors look with other colors and how they match.
I was never much of a pot smoker, so I don't know where this "pot thought" stemmed from...

that's a recurring thought for me actually. like what if your light receptors switch everything? you're not color blind, you see colors and when you say red, everyone else says red too, but everything is still all mixed up. in the end i don't think it would matter, but it would be freaky.

I used to have that thought all the time when I was a kid. What if my blue is someone else's brown? Could explain some of my supposed fashion faux pas'.

Must be navy blue. No worries, navy looks black to me as well.

Sounds something along the line of Plato's Allegory of the cave (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allegory_of_the_cave).

Are you suggesting I'm an immature child or that I have Peter Pan Syndrome? JK
Exactly my point though. It was weird that it hit me, at age 29, on my drive home from work..

I think about that, as well. But then I wonder when we see a particularly lovely shade of blue, everyone will agree that is is indeed lovely. Makes me wonder.
And thank God Mikey has his Garanimals.

Yeah it kinda freaked me out for a little last night until my inner monologue kicked in and said "Snap out of it dummy you're an adult!"
