View Full Version : A Summer of No TV

For the last few days I have been thinking about how much time I've wasted watching TV when I should have been doing more constructive things. My monthly DirecTV bill was going to be automaticly paid tomorrow, so I call DirecTV and told them to cancel my subscribtion. My service will be turned off sometime tomorrow and I made a promise to myself not to renew my subscribtion or look at getting Cable until the Summer is over.(I know I won't be able to live without Football)
This Summer I'm going to do more reading; get out, meet new people; try some new hobbies; and download lots and lots of internet porn.
Bottom line is this Summer my goal is to explore new things, and see what comes from it.

Great idea!

I couldn't do that during the summer though. Gotta have my Yanks!

Enjoy your summer and do all kinds of shit you wouldnt have done before.

i think i could go without tv only because so much of it is easily available online now anyway.

not watching the Mets games would be the only hard part but that gets easier every day.

As I sit here on my la-z-boy, wearing boxer briefs, washing popcorn down with amstel,
and watching Two And A Half Men, I commend you on your decision.

It's something I'd like to do someday,
if they did a study or something,
and would pay for volunteers.

But as Rich said, summer's a bad time... I've got my Sox.

(ps--watching 'tv' stuff online would be cheating!)

Again, good luck. Keep us posted as to how it goes.

I am currently paying for cable TV but don't even own one. I haven't for a couple years. I waste enough time on the internet to make up for it but watching TV just isn't something that I care to do. Before you say "why pay for it then?", the local rates are the same price for high speed interwebz and cable or just interwebz alone. It's a package thing.

Keep your radio tough. Ron and Fez may be on...

The Jabowokis will be hard to dethrone. What A genius idea it was to wear those masks. What I would like to know is how in the hell is Little Mama able to be a judge?

The one trap I don't want to fall into is taking the time I wasted on TV and then applying it to the internet. So I'm going to avoid things that will keep me glued to my computer all night like joining PalTalk, but I will continue to visit R&F.NET and follow the Mets through MLB.COM.
If I end the Summer with over 100,000 posts I don't think I achieved my goal.

You're not gonna watch baseball? Fuck at least listen to the games on the radio. How much money are you guys saving? A hundred dollars divided between how many people over 3 months? Just get the tv turned back on.

maybe we should merge the threads. silly of me to think that giving up television was an original idea.

thank god for hulu. i went without tv for two months last year. in that time i discovered arrested development & caught up on a lot of movies. it wasn't fun. of course since i had just moved i did have a lot of errands to run so i was out of the house a lot during the day. it was after dinner when it sunk in that we had no tv. & it sucked balls.

I think after the Stanley Cup Final is over I'll cancel cable.

I only watch sports and Forensic Files anyway.
