agreed, like the Caps, the retooled old skool jersey works

I just looked at the Rangers Depth Chart, please sign Gaborik, if not, how do we score goals

Theyre hoping for big things from Zherdev...It may be a case of him not clicking with Hitchcock in Columbus (Uncle Sergei didn't get along very well there either) that account for his "attitude" problems, but the guys got a ton of talent

Gaborik would be great for NYR, but will they have the cap room? They have 11 RFAs next year, including Dawes, Dubinsky, Zherdev and Prucha, and theyre paying 11 million COMBINED to Wade Redden and Michal Roszival....oof, and theyve got 7 million alone locked up with Lundqvist, and 16.5 (!) combined in Drury and Gomez!

El Mudo
09-19-2008, 06:32 PM
You cant change them while the puck is in play...wait till a whistle and go in edit lines

Thats what I remember from 08 at least

I love 09...haven't really bothered with Dynasty, i am heavy into Be A Pro....two milestones short of Pro Level Grinder at the moment...took me about 20 games to get promoted out of Hershey...

...At Left Wing....Number 61 in your programs...number 1 in your hearts....

Yeah, I am about to jump to Be A Pro, this is one of the few things that is different from 08.

Change lines doesnt have goalie from what i have seen. Maybe I am just missing something.

I think they have a good team in Boston, they play very well together, and they saved a lot of money by buying out Murray. I like their defence a lot between Chara, Wideman, and Lashoff. Lucic is fun to watch, my only beef is he seems to like to pummel guys extremely smaller than he is (see Matt Bradley) Brash popped his nose last year, which was fabulous). I think lack of scoring will hurt them in the end, I don't feel like they have the firepower to keep up with the Washingtons and Montreals of the East...they will win a lot of 2-1, 3-1 games

Marc Savard is awesome...Atlanta should have never let him get away

JimmieHats
09-23-2008, 06:25 AM
Werd. I will miss Murray. Bought an authentic home jersey of his last season. Good thing I like the number 27. Met him once, very cool guy.

And I agree. Defense looks great. Hopefully the goalies will be more consistent this year. Offensive firepower is questionable. Guess it's wait and see...

Goaltending situation is weird too

Thomas and Fernandez are both UFAs after this year...Thomas is really really erratic, but he puts up good stats. The guy will go out one game and look like Patrick Roy, but come out the next game and look like Andre Racicot (or Hardy Astrom), and theyre both 34

They really like what they have in Tuukka Rask

Sean Avery rips Don Cherry (http://www.globesports.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20081002.wsptavery1002/GSStory/GlobeSportsHockey/home)

NHL tough guy Sean Avery reopened his feud with Don Cherry this week by stating the CBC commentator knows next to nothing about hockey.

“He's a staple as far as Canadian hockey goes,” Avery said during interview on the CBC's The Hour. “And I grew up watching Coach's Corner, and he serves a purpose.

“But he really does not know shit about hockey.

“He knows, like, unnecessary facts about putting Sears catalogues on your shin pads.”

I love Grapes, but Avery rules...Love him for the Brodeur stuff last year, which I found to be hilarious

More:

On another subject, Avery, who is from Pickering, Ont., and played in the Ontario Hockey League, said a junior hockey player's focus on the game to the exclusion of everything else is “terrible.”

“I didn't go to school,” he said. “I dropped out at Grade 9. I didn't learn to play the piano. I didn't read Moby Dick. I didn't read anything.”

Asked to name the “biggest ass in the NHL,” Avery said [Darcy] Tucker.

Asked to finish this sentence: Most hockey players are . . ., Avery said, “very, very simple.”

I didn't think their D looked all that good to be honest....they got beat a TON of times, and Zherdev showed a lot of his olde habits (taking on 5 guys by himself instead of trying to pass the puck for a better opportunity and playing within the system)

The announcers tried their damndest to somehow convince me that Redden and Dmitri Kalinin (who i'm pretty sure has "Wanted" posters out for him in Buffalo) are any significant upgrades over Tyutin and Backman, but I don't buy it.

From what I watched, Tampa will get absolutely forechecked to DEATH this season by good teams, and NYR will struggle too

Its gonna be a long year for El Sid....

Ottawa just beat him up yesterday for the entire game...particularly Gator and Ruutu. There was one point where Ruutu had him pinned to the ice close to the Pens bench giving him the ol face wash/sneaky punch for a good 30-40 seconds with no one coming to stop him. He got hit hard on almost every shift (and he played close to 30 minutes!).

I don't know if that tells me more about Ottawa (finally showing some heart/guts...Gator is a warrior and I even saw Dany Heatley selling out a few times blocking shots), or about Pittsburgh (a complete and utter lack of grit...you CANNOT let people push Sid around like that)

"My biggest problem was I can't play Gratton's line every shift," Melrose said. "It's probably the lowest-paid line we've got on the ice, but by far the best line in the last two games.

"I hope our guys are embarrassed. We've just got to get our great players playing as hard as our lesser players and we'll be fine."

Eh...its the last preseason game, and who really cares in the long run? Its better that no one got hurt

If I were the Flyers, I would worry more that after Timmonen and Coburn, their Defence is...um....not good (Stunning Steve Eminger, Randy Jones, Ossi Vaananen, who played overseas last year and Lasse Kukonen, whom Alexander Mikhailovich Ovechkin murdered last year).

But hey...Sarah Palin is dropping the puck at their home opener! (http://flyers.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=385526)

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, the nation’s most popular hockey mom, will join the winner of the Philadelphia Flyers regional search for the “Ultimate Hockey Mom” contest and drop the puck at the ceremonial opening face-off as the home team Flyers host the New York Rangers at the Wachovia Center on Saturday, October 11 at 7 p.m.

“Because of the tremendous amount of publicity she has brought to our sport, we invited the most popular hockey mom in North America to our home opener to help us get our season started,” said Comcast-Spectacor Chairman Ed Snider who founded the Flyers in 1967. “We are very excited she has accepted our offer and we are very proud of the publicity she is generating for hockey moms and the sport of hockey.”

Come on mudo. Some are suspect but pretty good prospects. Randy Jones is looking to be pretty solid shut down guy(playing with hatch last year didn't hurt) Lasse is a shot blocking animal(one play of the hallowed ovechkin doesn't negate that) and barring a long set back by parent's shoulder he should progress well this season. Either way it should be a great season.

Its early, but I really like what I'm seeing out of the Leafs. I love watching Uncle Ronnie coached teams because they play tough, and are always good defensively...they are easy teams to root for because they play hard. How bout the Leafs throwing Luke Schenn to the wolves? They have 9 games before they can send him back

Well, I could have told you that.

I can't blame him for the first two goals he gave up...the first goal he gave up on the PP Diamond Dave Steckel missed a backcheck completely and let Hainsey walk right in...second one Iron Mike Green swung and missed trying to clear the puck in front of the net (again on the PP). The other two goals (the Kozlov one and the Little one through the five hole) were completely his fault...

Either way, I know its the first game, but giving up 7 goals to Atlanta? eeeeesh

And as much as I like Ovi, and it makes sense he was picked to take the penalty shot, no one...but NO ONE is more money on shootouts than Kozy

He's implying that Brodeur's statistics are inflated by the fact that he spent his entire career playing in a system that emphasized defence, to the point where the rules of the league were completely changed in order to combat it....call it the Neutral Zone Trap Corollary

No, it's the fact that his stats are different due to the lack of ties over the last few years. Would he have broken the record later (probably bt a 1 or 2 later)? Probably, but it's surely to be broken by a new goalie (looking at Carey Price) due to this reason and I hate it. I absolutely hate the shootout, and I'm not really ripping on Marty. Still, I don't put him above a few other goalies, one being a homer call I understand that. Top ten, yes easy. Top five, very close. Without the idiotic overuse of Marty during the regular season (especially now due to age and how much they have to lean on him) and system they employ, I also downgrade his ranking a bit.

They should have gone to Halak in the playoffs earlier last year when it was obvious Price didn't have it...ive been a fan of his ever since he stood in for Back Stabber Huet a few years ago and played out of his mind

Lets hope tonight's game against Chicago goes better

I also think Columbus will be a playoff team. They are very very good defensively, and its looking like they finally have some guys who can score besides Nash (Voracek, Umberger, and they've got Filatov down at Syracuse), and Pascal LeClaire is lights out money. This is a really good team, and I don't think Detroit will be as good as everyone thinks because they'll have some really tough games in their division between CBJ, the Blackhawks (who they couldn't beat last year), and Nashville (David Poile teams are always competitive)

Two last second losses (ok one was a few minutes) for the Avs to start the season REALLY hurts. It seems Budaj has no confidence after last year ass raping session with Q, and if he doesn't find his form/conf soon, the Avs are in trouble. They have plenty of offense and have severely outshot both opponents this year. Through 2 games Budaj has at least 3 weak goals allowed due to being very unstable/edgy, as his five-hole looks extremely suspect with any lateral movement. He simply sat the pine too much in the last two years and it'll take some time to get it back. The question is, will the Avs give it to him and can he get his edge back?

Cherepanov is dead. He collapsed on the bench on the 18th minute of the third period in the game against Vityaz Chekhov after a collision with Jaromir Jagr [his teammate on Omsk in the KHL]. He went to the bench and his heart stopped. He was taken to the emergency room at a local hospital where the best doctors in town worked for about an hour trying to resuscitate him. He was pronounced dead at 22:55 Moscow time (2:55pm EST). After the news the entire Avangard Omsk squad went to one of the local churches to light candles for Cherepanov.

Cherepanov, who had scored a goal in the game, collapsed while sitting beside former Rangers captain Jaromir Jagr after returning to the bench following what had been a routine shift with No. 68.

The ambulance that had been stationed at the rink had left the building before the game's conclusion. Though reports from Russia vary, if not conflict, it is believed that doctors were able to temporarily revive Cherepanov during a 45-minute wait for an ambulance to return to the rink.

Jay Grossman, Cherepanov's agent, said he had been told doctors were able to detect brain activity upon reaching a hospital. The young man, however, soon passed away.

Jaromir Jagr and Alexei Cherepanov had just finished a shift in Omsk on Monday night, had a 2 on 1 and didn't score and were talking on the bench when the 19-year-old collapsed, according to Rangers executive John Rosasco.

Jagr said the doctors were good and that there didn't appear to be an issue with the medical treatment, except for the ambulance's late arrival, Rosasco said.

Holy gay third man in Buf! That guy on the Isle got hit from behind while already engaged by Rivet. That's a HUGE pussy move, and it's one of the reasons I get on Buf over the course of the year. They have a history of it now. Fake dropping the gloves to get other team fighting majors and shit like this where they have to back up their mouths and then you get hit from the blind side.

rivet got the third man in. he went after the guy who was going after adam mair. rivet was sticking up for him b/c he had knee surgery over the summer and was trying to protect him. he got two game misconducts for it. the sportswriters in buffalo love what rivet did saying how the captain is supposed to defend his team. meh, third man in is pretty gay. mair couldve held his own. and kaleta just tossed whoever he was wrapped up with, i think witt. im a big kaleta fan.

Third man is fucking gay, but Rivet is usually a pretty centered guy. I wont bash him because I am sure was in fact protecting the knee as well as his team.

A third man (got the two buf names mixed up) in throwing punches/cross-checks into the back of the head of a man already engaged is a fucking pussy way to stick up for a teammate with (get ur tissues out) prior knee surgery. Seriously, knee surgery and you can't fight when you brought it on yourself. Fuck your knee surgery and third man is being ok bc he's a captain sticking up for his team. If someone did that to me I would have ripped his fucking face off.

Well tie in the fact that Mair had plenty of chance to not fight after he was "rescued" from a non-fighter like Thompson (by Rivet, fighter), it sure was weird that he started it up again with a sucker punch when the refs broke it up. And boy I can't believe his knee made it through that fight. Rivet should have blind sided Thompson again when they got going. That's a team captain's job. What was he thinking?!?

His full name is Alexander Mikhailovich Ovechkin....and i've never tried to hide coming up with crappy nicknames for my players (Jumpin John Erskine, Diamond Dave Steckel)

I've never made a secret about being a Caps fan, but I am NOT under any circumstances, a "homer"...NO ONE is harder on the Caps than I am, and its been the same way since I was a boy. My Kurt Sauer/Shoane Morrisonn "comparables" statistics come from Japersrink, which is a very good blog (they broke down every player during the offseason/FA period signings). I think our back two defecemen (Erskine and Jurcina) are Dog Poo, and at some point it will probably come back to really hurt us. I've NEVER EVER EEEEVER been a fan of Alexander Semin because he quit on the team a few years ago, and he's a giant vagina who doesn't in the least seem to enjoy what he's doing.

On Theodore, no team in the National Hockey League outside of the Tampa Bay Lightning, got worse production out of its goaltenders last year than the Washington Capitals. Theodore literally CAN'T do any worse, and even if he does, they'll (a) more than likely still make the playoffs and (b) he's only here for two years...its a smarter move for them in a sense because he can bridge to Varlamov and Neuvirth, and Huet got an INSANE offer from Chicago considering he's (a) never PLAYED more than 50 games in a season and (b) has never won a playoff series. Its no wonder he fled to Chicago after they gave him that ridiculous contract, and now they are stuck paying 12 million for two goalies.

Furthermore, we have one Eastern Conference title in almost 35 years of hockey. ONE CONFERENCE TITLE. I think I at the very least deserve to get a LITTLE fired up when the team looks as well as it does early on, considering the tear they went on to finish last year.

And I say all this with visions of Jose giving up 4 5 hole goals on the first 4 shots Pittsburgh has Thursday *gulp*

I'm not claiming you're a homer, just tough to listen to/read at times with the over the top descriptions as if you're a children's book writer. It simply reminded me of Kevin talking about his Giants on AIM a week ago, in which he truly believed they were unstopable even with the easiest schedule in the history of Super Bowl Champs. I'm curious, how do you fell about those jints today Kev? And I'd stay away from looking at the last four 2nd round playoff stats for Theodore Mud, he hasn't even won a game there in years (in which he was in the 2nd round). Quite simply, he's had a lot of chances and NEVER got to the Conf Finals.

But he has won 4 playoff rounds (compared to zero for Huet) and he was really the only guy available on the market after Huet and his agent stabbed us in the back and fled for Chicago. Management acted quickly and prudently to snap him up, and he's a pretty big upgrade over the Johnson/Kolzig tandem that was there much of last year. Plus, if the Caps keep forechecking and pressing as well as they do, i mean, for the love of mary they held a National Hockey League team to 10 shots on goal for an ENTIRE GAME last night...it should hopefully take care of itself. And scoring goals has been no problem. In the Atlanta disaster, they came back from down two goals TWICE, and came back from two against Chicago. They have enough firepower I think to overcome the crappiest of goaltending

The bottom line is, they don't need him to be 1985 Patrick Roy...they don't need him to steal games for them or have to have him nearly pitch a shutout every night. Almost like a QB that is a "game manager" he has to basically get in front of enough pucks to not lose us a game and generally not screw up to the point where it becomes fatal

Denver Post columnist rips Avs management (http://blogs.denverpost.com/avs/2008/10/14/this-ones-on-management/)

The fact is, this team is a mess right now, and I lay the blame at the feet of a management group that, based on its off-season decisions, seemed to lose their minds over the summer.

Not only is the Theodore story truly difficult to fathom, but the fact that ZERO changes were made to a penalty-killing unit that finished 22nd in the league last year is just plain bizarre. This is the same Avs team that can’t clear pucks, who are always beaten on weakside passing plays while short-handed and who can’t win faceoffs.

The fact that the two big off-season transactions were for a goalie nobody wanted and a pesky but aging winger - the type of player they already had enough of - is even more bizarre.

Throw in the fact management didn’t feel like it needed a heart-and-soul forward, Andrew Brunette, who did nothing but put up points on a regular basis and make smart plays, and, well, I just can’t figure it out anymore.

And, as much as I like Tony Granato personally, I still think it’s weird that this team fired - oh, sorry, decided to mutually part ways with - a coach who took a team to the final eight last season even though he had the seventh-most number of injuries to deal with in the league.

Denver Post columnist rips Avs management (http://blogs.denverpost.com/avs/2008/10/14/this-ones-on-management/)

Well first off, Q needed to go no matter what. He never adjusted to the league after the lock out year, blew countless games and was the main reason for the issues on the PP and PK. Ripping the team this early is a joke as well. Sure the team is sitting at 0-3, but 90% of the blame lays solely on the GT at this point, and every game was a 1 goal loss. They have outshot opponents in 2 of 3 games by a large number, and have a faceoff percentage well above .60% on the year even after a bad game with this stat against Calgary. This shows Granato made some nice strides there, but the PK remains a awful looking unit, while the offense (even though they've 10 goals in 3 games, 4 twice) just can't score enough to make up for the PK and GT play.

Do I wish they kept Bru, of course, but Minny was willing to pay extra to get him back (smart move/help your team and hurt a divison rival all at once). As for Theo, good ridance. Sorry, he's a nightmare and was a divisive force on the team and surely not worth that money. Now my biggest issue came a year ago when Colorado never tried to land Bryzgalov, or the year prior when the Avs made no push to get Luongo (probably wouldn't happen bc Vanc probably wouldn't trade in division).

The bottom line is that the team pretty much NEVER played healthy together all year in 2007. The have a new coach, new players, new goalie and three one goal losses. People need to calm down and realize they have to right the shit, not abandon it. I have faith not only in the fact that they have outplayed every team this year except on the scoreboard, but also bc they have a lot to work with and it's only October 15th.

Thats kind of a good question....what is the biggest rivalry in the game nowadays?

I think it really leans towards Crosby/Ovechkin, seeing as the league's marketing focus the last few years has been on promoting the individual players and not the teams. Boston and Montreal had some all out WARS last year with some really amazing games. Those are really the first two that come to mind when i think of who are the biggest rivals right now.

The league effectively killed all semblance of rivalries when they scrapped the Divisional playoff format...that was how hate was really built up between teams (Boston/Buffalo, Montreal/Quebec, Montreal/Boston, Philadelphia/Washington, Edmonton/Calgary etc) and you just really don't have that any more. You can't replace it by just playing the teams in your Division over and over again during the regular season...REAL hatred and rivalries are built in the playoffs. Hell, most, if not all, of the teams I DESPISE currently (Philadelphia, NJ, Rags, Pittsburgh, the goddamn Islanders) were all Patrick Division teams who we all had WARS with in the 80s and early 90s. There is not one memorable Caps series that doesn't involve one of those teams (and them usually beating us)

Oy....firstly, its 4 games. Secondly, how is the Q any type of an upgrade over Savard? The Hawks are a young team that needs TIME to grow, and while I understand they have 14,000 new season ticket holders, they have to keep true to their formula and not blow a gasket cause the team has started slow (AND ITS 4 GAMES!!!). I blame their problems more on (a) the fact they are spending 12 million combined on two goalies and (b) they dont have any depth at Centre (which is why if they could have gotten Khabibulin off the books, they could have turned that money right around for Sundin...the Lang deal was stupid, because I guess they apparently thought they could either drag Sundin out of retirement or Nyls out of DC).

Tortorella would have been a much better choice....if he said no, I woulda gone with a young minor league guy to play a fast, uptempo, high forechecking style that's worked out pretty well in DC and in Atlanta

And further, why even BOTHER bringing in a distraction like Quennville and his recent troubles with the law?

He'll find ways to bore the hell out of that team's fans with some of the most exciting young players in the game. He has never adjusted his game to the post lockout NHL. His troubles with the law are pretty minor (DUI) in the sports world, so I don't think that should play into the equation. However, I agree that they jumped the gun here, especially since I liked the way this team played under Savard last year, especially to end the year.

As for the minor league coach, it's not that easy. The Caps had someone familiar with their system and who was in the waiting for the NHL gig for some time. This team doesn't have anyone in that situation, and if you're making a quick move like this (premature to say the least), you need to bring in an NHL ready guy who can take over immediately.

My argument is that if they weren't big on Savard, you make the move before camp and help the whole organization get ready. Now turmoil right at the start of the year with a young roster and it's not a good move. Q hates offensive first kids and he'll have a lot to deal with here. He'll hold back from being a dick for the first few months making ins, but by mid-year this team will be the classic boring Q coached team. And lookout goalies, Q loves to destroy your careers. Here comes a goalie rotation with three starters!

Darren Pang was on the 204 today discussing this, and there's been a lot of speculation on his end that it came down to the fact that Savard kept playing Khabibulin and would not go to Huet as management apparently was demanding. He also made the point (that I agree with) that this team really just isn't as good as everyone thinks it is. They have some really good young players, but theyre young still, and theyve got Patrick Sharp centering their second line, when he's really a winger (again, dumbness of the Lang deal), so maybe its got a little to do with suddenly outlandish expectations.

That was Raycroft's first win in almost a full year (11/09/07)! Yet sorry Fallon, I'm not buying him just yet. You'll have to wait through a few more shots with Budaj first. Raycroft only faced 18 shots in the game, as the Av's D finally played tough in front of their net (biggest weakness this year so far).

They have to keep that lineup together where Gordon plays centre and Feds plays defence...that's really the best lineup we have, if only for the fact it gets Dog Poop Erskine scratched.

And now Tippy Tom Poti's injured...I don't know for how long yet, but I think it may be time for the Karl Alzner Era to begin.

And how WEIRD was it that play kept going on for like another 3 minutes after Gordon scored? It happened so quickly and bounced out so quick that the Refs didn't see it off the top. It looks really really obvious when you see it on replay.

a good friend from high school used to work for the Riggins show on Red Zebra. He said he could get us seats in their luxury box for just about Caps game. So we picked new year's day. And then on New Years Eve we got several frantic calls from my friend that we couldn't go to the game because Dan and Vinny were going to the game with their familes. Of all the days to pick. We wound up getting to go later in the season and see them lose to the Flyers. :furious:

I also saw the Van Halen show from the luxury box, too.

Ive never seen a game at the phone booth (or anywhere) from the luxury boxes...sound like theyre nice

The best I did last year was get 75 dollar seats, which were great, although i was able to get some 50 dollar ones right on centre ice for the Rangers game where the legend of Mike "Game Over" Green was born

And i was at the game last year against Pittsburgh at the Booth where Backy put the puck in his own net...probably the single most depressing moment ive ever had at a live sporting event. You could just feel like every ounce of air possible taken out of the crowd. It was lovely being taunted mercilessly by Pens fans on the way out.

And people wonder why I DESPISE the Pens...that's pretty much why in a nutshell

Apparently, the Edmonton Oilers organisation doesn't understand the concept of "blogs" and its frightened and confused by them (http://coveredinoil.blogspot.com/2008/10/it-ends.html)

All went well until just before the start of the third, when one of the Oiler press guys pulled me aside and informed me that I'd no longer be allowed in the press box, and that if I didn't have a job to do, he would have had someone escort me out of the building right then and there. I was understandably a little confused as to what was going on, and after a little questioning, he told me that I was not allowed to blog in the press box, as I was there on another media pass. I apologized and explained that exactly no one had told me about this, and I'd be more than willing to stop doing it in the future if they had a problem with it. That didn't seem to help at all: he got more agitated, reminded me that he could have me thrown out right now, and told me I wouldn't be welcome back. I pressed for a bit more of an explanation, and I was eventually told that the Oilers didn't grant press passes to bloggers unless they were employed by the organization or the NHL, and that I had abused my press pass and wasn't allowed back.

By the time this finished, the game had re-started, so there wasn't much more I could do but go back, stop the blog and start covering what was happening. A few minutes later, he came back and actually stood over my shoulder and demanded I remove the post entirely, also reminding me that I wouldn't be back. I did so without arguing, until he also demanded I shut down the chat window I was using to keep in contact with my employer (I have a feeling at least part of the problem the Oilers have with blogs is that basic computer literacy in the organization seems to be on the level of grandmother with a Nintendo in the basement, but I digress). He let me keep that after I explained what it was. Aside from that chat window thing, though, I cooperated without argument, and even managed to sneak in some apologies, some explanations that absolutely no one had told me I couldn't do this, and some promises that I wouldn't do it again, all of which were met with, roughly, "You won't do this again because you won't be here again." (Note: he didn't actually say that. I would doubt he's that eloquent. But you get the jist.)

What a joke. All the time there are guys like Buzz Bissinger who complain that bloggers aren't "real journalists" but when you can't even BLOG FROM THE PRESS BOX AT THE GAME without getting thrown out/hassled, what's the point?? I don't blame the guy one bit for quitting his blog site

Jones may not miss as much time as originally thought, but that defence is still poop (and the little i've seen of Luca Sbisa, i havent been impressed....send him back down a couple levels)

And they have back to back home and homes with San Jose and New Jersey as their next 4 games.....yikes.....

i want the avs to turn it around
the wings rivalry with the blackhawks died cuz the hawks have sucked for 2 decades
the avs/wings rivalry has been the best in the NHL for awhile now

And let's take a step back here too, it's not like the Avs aren't competitive. They've made the playoffs every year but once since they moved to Colorado for the 95/96 season. They just haven't played well against the Wings, and most of the rivalry was killed off due to schedule, not the records. You can't play a team twice a year and keep up that level of hate, sorry.

Its being discussed "informally" either by relocation or expansion...I would think they would put a team in Hamilton first since I think southern Ontario is a much more viable market than rapidly changing Toronto (lots o' foreigners there now...I believe they now outnumber Canadians)

Odd way to get injured (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news?slug=ap-blues-legacehurt&prov=ap&type=lgns)

ST. LOUIS (AP)—Blues goalie Manny Legace left after one period Friday night with a hip injury that occurred when he slipped on the carpet placed on the ice for Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

The Alaska governor dropped the ceremonial first puck before the Blues hosted the Los Angeles Kings. A narrow carpet walkway was placed from the gate at the Blues bench to center ice for Palin, her husband and two of her daughters.

Just before the ceremony, Legace was the first player onto the ice for St. Louis. A team official pointed to the carpet. But Legace said the official moved his own foot from the carpet just as Legace stepped down, causing the carpet to slide.

Legace fell, then gingerly made his way to the crease.

The Avs/Sabres game tonight was quite possibly the best I've seen in a long time. Great D, great goaltending, crisp passing, and good physical play. The Avs battled back late to tie it 1-1, and won in an extended shootout.

However, for the second straight time (this year too) against the Avs, they looked like pussies by punching someone with the gloves on and then get challenged only to FAKE dropping them in hopes of drawing a CHEAP fucking penalty. Seriously, is Ruff teaching this pussy move or what? I got in a argument about this with Buf fans last year when the Sabres pulled the same fucking move.

On top of that, the Sabres also started a fight only to run away and have another guy try to finish it (just like that game with Rivet earlier in the year). Sorry, I actually like the Sabres, perhaps more than any other team in the East, but this gay shit will surely change my opinion if it continues.

Still, Miller looked amazing and Budaj has found his game after a tough start. It was an amazing goalie duel to say the least, and it wasn't like their weren't great chances against both teams.

Alexei Cheraponov was playing illegally for Omsk (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=254342&lid=sublink07&lpos=headlines_main)

MOSCOW - Alexei Cherepanov, the 19-year-old rising star and New York Rangers draft pick who died after collapsing during a game, was playing illegally for his Russian club, a top military officer said Friday.

Cherepanov's death Oct. 13 prompted wide outrage among lawmakers and Russian sports officials, with many calling for a major investigation into the cause of the heart problems that led to his death at a Continental Hockey League game. He was a first-round draft pick for the Rangers.

Col. Vladimir Karpenko, a spokesman for the commander of Russia's Railway Troops, said in comments on state-run First Channel that Cherepanov should have been serving his mandatory military service with his unit, not playing hockey with the Omsk club Avangard.

Karpenko said 19 other conscripts from the Railway Troops also were illegally playing for Avangard.
