that Crosby pass to Kennedy for the goal was a thing of beauty. what a great 2nd period

IMO the Pens have outplayed the Wings in every game so far in the series. They did not catch one break when they were in Detroit. If they can keep this momentum going, the Wings are in trouble.

I TOTALLY agree on that. The only place the wings outplayed them was in net, and those Detroit board bounces had a TON to do with that. Osgood sucks! Shoot from the points bc he can't handle far shots.

It looked like the Penguins just toyed with them the whole third period tonight. They totally controlled the period and the game.

Not if it happened in games 3 and 4. The question is, which team is your favorite or will you wait until someone wins 4 to pick your new favorite team?

One of the local news outlets reported that there were 12,000 people outside the arena last night to watch the game on "Mario's TV". There is quite a buzz over the availability of tickets for game 5 in Detroit as well. Expect to see even more there than were at games 1 and 2.

Highly doubtful, bc Matt Duchene is cheap longer and better at the 3 spot. Still, if they toss in Rask I'm game! Oh and you never know.

I really don't care that much. On one hand, I like to see an original six team win but on the other hand, the Pens looked really great on Thursday. with Habs out of it early, I don't back any of the teams that strongly. I guess I want the Pens to win tonight so it goes to game 7 and is an interesting series.

Pen's fans are about as bad as Buffalo fans....
what?
Fuck experience. I wish Babcock would sit Draper and Maltby and let the kids play. Abdelkader and Helm are better at killing penalties at this stage of the game than those two dinosaurs.

Kids tend to make those mistakes in big games that end up in the net though.
I'm willing to take that chance.
And next year I really hope the Wings cut the ties with Chelios and those two. It's nice that they've rewarded the vets but enough is enough.

With that being said, let's go Wings. Not that I really care, but I like them more than Crosby. Malkin is another story however.

3rd star of the game - Gary Bettman
2nd star of the game - the referees
1st star of the game - The Red Wings who are terrified to SHOOT THE FUCKING PUCK.
"Hmmm....I'm wide open in the slot with the puck on my stick. What should I do? I know...I'll make a really pretty pass!"
I can't believe this team has gotten this far. So much dead weight.

Ouch! (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/nhls-injury-policy-a-pain/article1176410/)
Inquiring minds wanted to know why Detroit's incomparable defenceman Nick Lidstrom missed the final two games of the Western Conference final between the Red Wings and Chicago. The media spoke only of the ubiquitous “lower-body” injury. And when Lidstrom appeared tired and mistake-prone in the Final against Pittsburgh, questions were raised again about his fitness to play. Was it an ankle? A knee? Under the NHL's Orwellian injury disclosure policy, a postal-code approximation of the hurt was all that was given to the media.
Actually, Lidstrom had a damaged testicle from being pitch-forked by Chicago's Patrick Sharp in Game 3 of the Western final. He needed all the time between the cheap shot and Game One of the final to rehab the injury. As Paul Harvey used to say, “Now you know the rest of the story”.

A penalty shot.
Is that the only offense in hockey that results in a penalty shot?
Is that the only offense in hockey that results in a penalty shot?
Basically, anything that stops an almost "sure goal" or impedes a player from a breakaway results in a penalty shot.
If a guy is coming down on a breakaway and he is tripped from behind by the defenseman he could be awarded a penalty shot, and in the Scuderi case only a goalie may close his hand on a puck in the crease. If any other player on the defense does it a penalty shot is the call.
If the defense intentionally dislodges the net during a scramble a penalty shot can also be awarded.

i think if a dman even covers the puck in the crease by any means its a penalty shot too.
if a defending player or goaltender throw his stick that could also land you a penaty shot.

67.4 Penalty Shot - If a player, except a goalkeeper, while play is in progress, falls on the puck, holds the puck, picks up the puck, or gathers the puck into his body or hands from the ice in the goal crease area, the play shall be stopped immediately and a penalty shot shall be awarded to the non-offending team. See also Rule 63 – Delaying the Game.
67.5 Awarded Goal – When a goalkeeper, prior to proceeding to his players’ bench to be replaced by an extra attacker, intentionally leaves his stick or other piece of equipment, piles snow or other obstacles at or near his net that, in the opinion of the Referee, would tend to prevent the puck from entering the net, a goal shall be awarded. In order to award a goal in this situation, the goalkeeper must have been replaced for an extra attacker, otherwise a minor penalty shall be assessed.
If a player, when the goalkeeper has been replaced for an extra attacker, falls on the puck, holds the puck, picks up the puck, or gathers the puck into his body or hands from the ice in the goal crease area, the play shall be stopped immediately and goal awarded to the non-offending team.

Malkin and Zet should have been suspended.
With that being said, they are two stars who the NHL felt that they couldn't afford to be without. Whatever.
To be honest, that rule is complete horseshit, but so was the fact that they threw rules out bc of who it was. Funny enough, if it was Talbot we would have seen a suspension, but bc it was a huge name they all of a sudden throw it out!? Fuck that, how about we just toss that bs rule to begin with and judge things on a fucking case by case basis. Idiotic shit can happen at any point of the game, not just the end (Moore). If you can't get physical at the end of a game and fight if people take the bait, so what.

Bettman's been doing that forever,
No Goal in '99 against the Stars.......Hull's skate in the crease....
Then after the series, a supposed alteration to the rule in memo form was sent out...bullshit

they did the same thing when scott walker sucker-punched aaron ward int he bos-car series. he was given an instigator but they didn't follow through with the suspension, he did get fined however, but lucic was given a game misconduct that was later changed to a match and he got suspended for game three of the bos-mon series for a "high stick". then in game four komisarek breaks a stick across lucic's face and not even a whisper of a suspension. the lack of consistency in the officiating this year (post season especiallly) was sickening. campbell and bettman need to be shot.

I agree that this year had some just plain awful calls. The post season was the boiling point. May I point out the none-call against Carolina when they bumped Brodeur in the final second of game 4. The next game they called an interference call on the Devils which was a bullshit call. Made no sense.
It really pisses me off how the game is called one way during the regular season then an entirely different way in the playoffs.
Pick a style and STICK WITH IT.
During the season, if you so much as brush up against a guy half a second after he's touched the puck you're getting whistled for interference. In the playoffs, you can blast him 3 seconds after he's passed it and you're fine.
It would be like baseball giving you 5 strikes and 5 outs if you reach the post-season. It's a completely different game.

Inconsistent refereeing is one thing, they can always point to human error on that one, but when you have a rule implemented for the league, no matter how ridiculous, HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU JUST IGNORE IT WITHOUT ANY REPERCUSSIONS????
Ive never seen that done in any other sport. That wouldve been like Bud Selig announcing that Manny Ramirez tested positive for a banned substance, but because hes one of the best players in the league, we cant have him go 50 games without playing, so instead were just gonna fine him. The uproar wouldve been ridiculous. I dont understand how the owners continue to let the NHL get away with the blatant favoritism.
Thats the shit that drove me away from the game.

It is bullshit, there is no other way to look at it. However, the NBA did almost the same thing this year with a big name, Howard, when they feared he was about to amass too many technicals and decided after the fact they were just going to get rid of one. To be honest, Bettman is nothing more than a Stern clone. Both are business men who really have no past interest in both these sports. I met Bettman once up in northern Bergen County at a restaurant during the strike year and he doesn't give two fucks about the fan. My buddy and I caught him outside on the deck having a beer and struck up a casual convo with him and he was nothing more than a cunt....in all seriousness. So we unloaded on him about the season, strike, league changes and how he doesn't even know how to lace up a pair of skates, much less hit the ice. Hell, he's even a shitty businessman.

God Damnit. I hate when a city wins more than 1 championshipin year. Oh wait that was two different citys in the same state. who gives a shit.
Nope, Steelers and Pens in Pitt.
Phillies in Philthadelphia.
3 titles stump.
and it seems to happen a lot lately, either championships or making the championship
2009 steelers and penguins
2008
2007 red sox and patriots .. celtics won title in 08 but season started in 07

2004 red sox and patriots
2003 tampa bucs and lightning
2002 devils and nets ..... anaheim ducks and angels
2001
2000 giants, mets, yankees
debateable if you wanna count the yanks and devils as being in the same area so i didnt include them but they both made their respective sports championship in 2001, they also made it in 2003
in 05 the chisox won the world series and in the 06 season the bears made the super bowl, so not the same year but close, but since it wasnt the same year i didnt put it on the list above
in 03 season the carolina panthers made the super bowl while the hurricanes made the stanley cup finals in 02
pistons won title in 04, made finals in 05, tigers made world series in 2006 and red wings won the cup in 01-02, 07-08, lost this year
you can also maybe include the rays (mlb) and the magic (nba) b/c of proximity and lack of pro teams in all 4 major sports
a bit far apart
avalance won in 00-01, rockies made world series in 07
d backs won world series in 2001, cardinals made super bowl this year

The local news outlet just reported an estimated 250,000 have gathered for the parade that hasn't even started yet.
Say what you want about the 'Burgh, for better or worse, this has to be considered a top tier sports town.

Ratings are in... (http://puckthemedia.wordpress.com/2009/06/13/game-7-draws-a-massive-7-5-million-viewers/)
Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final on NBC drew a terrific 7.51 Million Viewers on Friday night, with a 3.0/11 among Adults 18-49. It made NBC easily the top draw on Friday night, and is likely the highest-rated hockey game in many, many years, and may be the most-watched hockey game of the decade, as the largest competition is 2003’s Game 7 between the Devils and Ducks.
The game peaked in the 10PM hour with a huge 9.04 million viewers watching the Cup being awarded to Sidney Crosby’s Penguins, and a 3.7/12 among Adults 18-49. The game’s lowest point was the 8-8:30 PM half-hour, where the game drew 5.78 million viewers and a 2.2/9 in the demo.
Regardless, the NHL brass will look at this as one of those watershed moments for hockey, where more people have watched a game than in years. When the CBC numbers get added in, it is likely the game will cross the 10 million mark, making it the first hockey game since the 2002 Gold Medal Match between the U.S. and Canada to do so.

Wow, that's actually pretty impressive. I know I'm being a homer yet again, but the ratings here in Pittsburgh have been insanely high all year for every game from what I've read. Fox Sports has taken out ads in the local papers to thank the fans for making it their number one market for hockey and one of their best overall.

Steigerwald and Errey are okay, but i'd much rather listen to Mike Lange and the ol' 29er if given the choice

Still Donnie, how were said ratings when you were a mid-level team without two of the biggest stars in the game and a 1st overall pick goalie? It wasn't that good up there to say the least. Just like in Denver, the Avs drew full houses every game when on top or close with stars like Sakic and Forsberg in their prime, and now aren't even close to doing so with the ratings down as well. Sure it's still a very good hockey hotbed in the US, but it's not exactly fair to pick one year on your second Stanley Cup run to use as a litmus test.
However, we do have something on the likes of the NJ Devs and Ginger Wings who STILL have issues with selling out when on Stanley Cup runs with great teams. I should know, I saw 3 fucking games in NJ of the 2001 Stanley Cup Finals by walking up to the ticket booth day of and got great seats. Hell, I even sat with the Drury family at game 4 I believe, and they loved it I was an Avs fan and gave me a ton of Avs swag and beer throughout the game! My favorite item they gave me was a cool hat with 18 on the front and his name on the back over the semicircle in small script, along with 16W on the side (the mantra for the Avs that year). I got it signed later and everything and had a cool convo with him bc he couldn't figure out how I got one! At least I can still remember when the Avs were good! Ha!
