Anybody watching this weekend? The course looks damn near impossible and it's making everyone look stupid right now. I can't imagine having to play a course with 2 +500 yard par 4's. Tiger, bad knee and all, is still managing to hang around even though he's played the front nine's like dogshit all weekend.

I think if he's in striking distance tomorrow, look out. He's tied for second right now and I'm not sure if Rocco can breathe easy even with a three stroke lead.

Speaking of looking stupid, FIGJAM just fell apart.

It's more impressive the Willis Reed. From what I've read, while Willis Reed came back and played with his ankle, he only played for a little while, before he had to quit.

Tiger played 18 holes on a bum knee and had three of the most amazing shots of his career, in golf history.

Right now, I'm so happy that I have that round on my DVR, AND I watched it live. Just have to figure out how to get it onto my computer and save it.

Yesterday's performance is the answer to the question people ask about how you can cheer for Tiger, the favorite. With Tiger's case, you root for him not because it's an easy bandwagon choice, but because you're lucky enough to see golf history be made, and you're cheering him to do the impossible. When he made the putt on 13, I practically fell over, and then made my wife watch the hole over again.

What he did on 13 made yesterday's round memorable, but add in what he did on 17 and 18, and that he's did it on a bum knee, and you have the one of the most incredible 6 hole stretches in golf history.

the one on 18 he read because the guy he was partnered with was away and putted first, at the end of the round tiger said he wouldnt have made that putt if he wasn't able to see the other putt first.

I think this thing's going to get wrapped up tomorrow. Either Woods or Westwood (if not both) are going to birdie 18.

Which brings up this point: the 18-hole playoff to break a tie is one of the stupidest ideas in sports. I like how the British Open (and the PGA now, I think) does it: a 4 hole playoff with sudden death after that if it's still tied. That avoids the chance of winning a major on a fluke you can get in the Masters, but means that you won't have to return the next day, probably.

EliSnow
06-15-2008, 04:47 PM
Well, Tiger's put himself into position to force a playoff. It's definitely a putt he can make.

I know you are joking, but I agree to a degree. I do not doubt his knee hurt. However, the misery he withstood was dramatically oversold by NBC. He celebrated enthusiastically, basically jumping up and down when he made the final put - he couldn't hurt too much? Just being facetious, but still I never saw him limping as he walked roughly 5 miles today?

And although I don't think he plans it, he seems to do the amazing things at the most dramatic times. I mean, look at the shots he made when the Open was on NBC primetime, as opposed to the usual afternoon/early evening.

I'm actually pulling for Rocco today - but Game is right, Tiger got into Rocco's head... he was completely deflated in the press conference.

Tiger's biggest issue in this tournament has been starting weak. Rocco has to exploit that and DON'T LET UP if he's up by three shots by the turn.

I appreciate the greatness of T. Woods, but I have to go for the underdog. This is Mediate's only chance, Tiger will win 10 more.

tiger just hit a laser from the bunker on 15 and got closer then mediate's shot from the fairway, mediate follows it up with a sweet birdie putt to put the pressure back on tiger.

the back nine has been ridiculously entertaining so far, i still dont like the 18 hole playoff format but this has been a classic.

hopefully it comes down to 18 (im rooting for mediate to have his moment in the sun, tiger already has more than any man needs in this world in just about every category imaginable)

that was the greatest plane ride ive ever been on, god bless jet blue......i watched holes 1-5 in the airport bar then got on the plane for the 6th hole. The rest of the Open took up literally the entire flight, Tiger was draining his final putt in sudden death and Rocco was missing his right when we touched down in NY. what a great major this was. normally I'm a Masters guy, but this one blew me away.

Amazing. Rocco crawled back in, 3 down with 8 to go only to take the lead going into 18. He had a chance to win it, but fell oh so short. A great finish for the game and the USGA, just feel horrible for Rocco. It was more than likely his only chance ever to win a major. Call me a sap, but Tiger is going to wind 10 more - it would have been nice for the little guy to pull of the incredible upset today.

exactly, i appreciate and admire his greatness and dedication, but i have a hard time rooting for, or ever feeling bad for, someone that is going to destroy every record in the sport and is already ridiculously rich and famous.

i am always happy for him after he wins, but i always root for whoever is chasing him unless they are a notorious prick/idiot.

i am consistent in that regard as i root for upsets in virtually every sport i watch. as a patriots fan i could even enjoy rewatching the giants beating them in the superbowl after a few days.

Normally I like rooting for the longshot or underdog, but Tiger is one of those rare cases where the dominant player is so amazing, I take much more pleasure out of seeing him win and kick ass at his sport than anyone else. It's like when Jordan was playing...and I guess it would be like watching Babe Ruth in his prime.

i dont get how ron thinks tiger chokes more than anyone...ron is one of those people that believes that tiger is expected to win every time and when he doesnt they believe he choked...stupid way of thinking

The only thing is that you do have to wonder if that knee is going to be a long term issue. I mean, I can't imagine that playing 91 holes was exactly the best thing for it. I gotta think that some of the inaccuracy we saw this weekend had to do with it. Can he fully recover?

I guess now he'll rehab it more preparing for the British. It'll be interesting to see if he's at full strength then.

another thing that ron said how tiger was just going to blame it on his knee...yeah, of course he would have if he lost...he played 91 holes against doctors wishes and was actually limping around the course at time...why wouldnt he blame it on his knee...i dont know why it bothers me but ron came off looking like an ass on this...i think he just has some tiger hate for some reason

I hate to use this awful cliche but this was really one time where you wish that there could be two winners.

One for the ages.

My sentiments exactly.

You root for him because you know he could pull off incredible things. It's like being able to watch a great artist paint, and wonder if it will be one of his masterpieces.

Who ever thought televised golf would be exciting? Listened to half on XM, then watched the rest instead of climbing yesterday, and then went out and played 18 holes starting at 5PM and finishing after dusk. You can't beat $10 sunset golf in the mountains when everything is just all lit up orange and pink... except for that I kept losing my pink ball...

Who wasn't rooting for Rocco???
