A defining point of this board is the fact that if it's on the air, it's fair game. You make a CHOICE to put stuff out there when you go on the air. Chris had NO FUCKING REASON to talk about being molested on the air but he did.

There's a difference between putting it in "That's Life" and putting it out on the air.

East Side Dave is a member here. He gets tagged CONSTANTLY. We know Earl reads the board. He gets destroyed. So what's the difference? Because they are show employees?

Furthermore, by being on the air, you do leave yourself more open to criticism, within reason, so that's why you do see some of the threads on the board that are negative towards Dave, Earl, whatever.

I made the call on the thread. I felt that, even given the fact that Chris brought the story up on the air, and even though there is more leeway to criticize because he's on the air, it was a little too mean spirited, so I locked it up. A. Yes the FAQ is out of date. It's something we've been meaning to do, but there is a lot of work in maintaining this site, and no one's taken the ball and run with it. When there has been discussion of the rules, I have done my best to make as clear as possible what the rules are and explain as carefully as possible where there is a gray area and why it exists. I've also beenm accused of being to wordy when I've done this.

B. We get it. You hate all the extra forums. It's very easy for you to ignore them. Just one click. If the forums are active, then people like them. If they aren't, they are even easier to ignore. That was an experiment. Whether they stay or go remains to be seen, but I don't think it's as big of a deal as you make it out to be. Additionally, yes there are many threads outside of the show, but a big part of that stems from the fact that this board has developed into a community separate from the show that has the show as common ground.

C. If people don't post in show related threads, we can't make them. All we can do is start those threads and participate in them, which is what the staff tries to do. Beytond that, it's up to the membership.

D. The line between personal attacks and ballbusting cannot be easily made. Ballbusting is usually between people who are friends or at least friendly acquaintances, and there isn't any real animosity behind the comments. How do you draw a line in the sand on that. Say that certain comments are ballbusting and certain ones aren't, when context is everything? Say that any comment made from spoon to moe cannot be ballbusting. There are far too many variables to say when something is and isn't ballbusting. If you use my definition of ballbusting as a rule of thumb, I think that's all you can do. I think you know this, but are just trying to stir the pot.

E. The "I'm the boss, if you don't like it fuck you" bit is laughable. I've made comments like that as a joke, but no one has ever said or intimated anything like that seriously. Ultimately, we have to choose a course for this board. We have put many topics regarding the management of the board up for discussion. If for some reason we don't choose your course doesn't make it the scenario you described.

I would say that is certainly a component, but not necessarily the focus. And can't that be said of almost anything that gains in size and popularity? The early days were probably more focused and streamlined, but as the site grew it started to cater to the new, wider audience. Sure, you lose some of the "purity" but you can also gain new perspective. And any system will seek to perpetuate itself, especially as it's size and influence increases.

I don't disagree with you completely - I just think you may be swinging a little to the extreme on this point. And that is purely my opinion; not saying that you are "wrong." :wink:

Ron and Fez have ALWAYS been the first to give their buddays a shot ... hell I have sung on the show more than a couple of times and it's because Ronnie wills it to be so.
They are just really great that way. And so the board emulates their example...
