View Full Version : An Iron Man Question

I know enough about Iron Man that the two main armor wearers are Stark and Rhodes. However, I was thinking about something last night, so I wanted to throw it out:
Marvel's always had female versions of their characters. She-Hulk. Spider-Woman, etc. etc. etc.
Has there EVER been a female version of the armor and/or a female wearer? Like, has Pepper Potts ever been called into service, either wearing the original armor or getting her own armor designed?
I don't know. It was just a random thought I had reading up on the Hulk movie coming out.

I think that Marvel experimented with this version of "Iron Woman" but there was some backlash from women's groups.

Yeah, there was a girlfriend/bodyguard character who showed up in the late 80's who briefly wore armor in the 90's, but it was just a typical Iron Man suit. Nothing "girly" about it and no fake metal boobs for you to freakishly enlarge, you creepy perv. What about Black Widow's armor in the Ultimate Universe?

Mojo beat me to the Black Widow armor from the Ultimates. That is the only female specific "iron man" armor I recall. There have been a few armor wearing women, but it wasn't Iron Man/Stark armor.

Sounds like you're passive-aggresively making a request.

for some reason I can picture a female in the red and gold, in a more feminine armor Was it a future story, like Guardians of the Galaxy or something?

The old G of G had the "Stark" as an agressive alien race that worshipped Tony Stark and wore some type of armor if I remember correctly
Plus the old Excaliber series "cross time caper" had them popping in and out of alternate Marvel U's one of which was a opposite world with all the heros being female
I think thats right but I could be wrong

I've found two female "Iron Men" from alternate futures/universes, both with the name Iron Maiden:
Earth X's Iron Maiden:

Oh yeah.
I guess I had purged the mediocre letdown of that series.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, it depends on you look at it), I didn't know.
But what did occur to me was that if there was a female "Iron Man", the name "Iron Maiden" was a likely name for such a character. So I googled "Iron Maiden Marvel" and found the above.

His niece, Natasha, was Steel when John Henry Irons was injured.

Most of those Marvel female characters where to cover copyrights for characters that had appeared on tv. Marvel didnt want the networks to come up with versions of their own,so they put out what they thought would be one offs. Sales were good so they both(spider woman and she hulk) became more then that. I think now Marvels rights on their characters are better taken care of and more under the control of the company so you dont see this kind of thing popping up as often.

Trademark, not copyright, but otherwise pretty accurate.
