Do you have any songs or bands that mean summer to you? Or just remind you of summer in general?

I was on a business trip in Martha's Vineyard a few summers ago blasting Deep Purple's Chasing Shadows in my car just driving around enjoying the beautiful weather and scenery, so now it always reminds me of summer:

...on the first really warm sunny day of the year that allows me to open my sunroof you can BET I will be listening to that song!

And does this song mean summer to anybody else? I went camping a lot in the summer with my mom and my sister and we used to blast this song over and over... now whenever I hear it I'm reminded of those awesome summer vacation camping trip days...

Absolutely. The "Stand By Your Van" live CD is great for chillin' by the pool with some cold beverages.

I thought of this topic because I'm painting my kitchen today and was really in the mood to hear "Painter". Rod Evans is the KING, and Captain Beyond is also one of my favorite bands.

And I've had some great summer days rocking out and singing along to "Sloop John B" on the way to the beach!!!

You're OK in my book!

This is another gem from Mark I: especially when driving.

Hell yeah! Also anything from the 13th Floor Elevators reminds me of the summer... maybe that surfy guitar/garage band sound going on. Maybe it's the jug...

I am with you Raamone! I love "Steal My Sunshine". Lucy on XM plays it all the time and I get downright giddy!

"Midnight Rider" always makes me think of the cusp of sundown during the summer. "Whipping Post" when it's ridiculous hot.

A lot of Clapton with Cream and without. "Light My Fire" gives me visions of the beach and boardwalk. Anything Motown and girl groups of the '60s makes me think of driving around.

I attribute the latter stuff to listening to 101.1 during the summer in the car with my parents.

Duran Duran and New Order because i spent an entire summer burning their cds out once.

That album is really really good, most people give you a look when you say 'Len' not knowing that it's alot of 80s hip hop and electronic stuff. I wish their second album had come out in the US.

I used to have a Dead bootleg of a September '74 London show that I listened to on my way to go fishing every summer. The songs I remember were; El Paso, Me and Bobby Mcgee, Cassidy and my favorite on the tape was Bertha.

US Blues
Grateful Dead
Red and white, blue suede shoes, I'm Uncle Sam, how do you do?
Gimme five, I'm still alive, ain't no luck, I learned to duck.
Check my pulse, it don't change. Stay seventy-two come shine or rain.
Wave the flag, pop the bag, rock the boat, skin the goat.
Wave that flag, wave it wide and high.
Summertime done, come and gone, my, oh, my.

I'm Uncle Sam, that's who I am; Been hidin' out in a rock and roll band.
Shake the hand that shook the hand of P.T. Barnum and Charlie Chan.
Shine your shoes, light your fuse. Can you use them ol' U.S. Blues?
I'll drink your health, share your wealth, run your life, steal your wife.
Wave that flag, wave it wide and high.
Summertime done, come and gone, my, oh, my.

Back to back chicken shack. Son of a gun, better change your act.
We're all confused, what's to lose?
You can call this song, the United States Blues.
Wave that flag, wave it wide and high.
Summertime done, come and gone, my, oh, my.

I think I saw WSP about 75 times or so between 1993-2001. I loved this band so much but can't stand to hear them without Mikey.<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/is0t-j2ekvE&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/is0t-j2ekvE&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

This song always makes me think of Summertime shows outside. (even though this video is from the Fall......Inside..Halloween, Austin City Limits from 8 years ago I think)

The "spicy gumbo" intro is a bit much, but Space Wrangler is my Definitive Summer Song.
A Close second would be,Dreams by the Allman Bros.
