View Full Version : The Best Cameo?

The search thing didn't find any similar threads.

An obvious question: What's the best cameo in a movie?

One that comes to mind for me right now is Brett Farve in "There's Something About Mary." It just seemed to me to be a fairly strong individual performance given that he's not an actor, the scene had pretty good chemistry, and his appearance caught me off guard.

Plus he's one hot meaty dude.

Hope I dont ruin the ending for anyone, but when I think cameo, I think
Merv Griffin in The Man With Two Brains.

The whole movie, there was a serial killer who killed his victims in the elevator.
In this scene, we find out who the culprit is:

Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr: You. You're the elevator killer. Merv Griffin.
Merv Griffin: Yeah.
Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr: Why?
Merv Griffin: I don't know. I've always just loved to kill. I really enjoyed it. But then I got famous, and - it's just too hard for me. And so many witnesses. I mean, *everybody* recognized me. I couldn't even lurk anymore. I'd hear, "Who's that lurking over there? Isn't that Merv Griffin?" So I came to Europe to kill. And it's really worked out very well for me.

Hitchcock in Lifeboat, followed by all his others...

=

Thirty-seven of director Alfred Hitchcock's 52 surviving major films contain a cameo appearance by Hitchcock himself. The director would be seen for a brief moment boarding a bus, crossing in front of a building, standing in an apartment across the courtyard, or even appearing in a newspaper photograph (required for the film Lifeboat which otherwise provided no other opportunity for him to appear).

Damon in Eurotrip. The cameo itself is great and totally unexpected. But if you remember the context it was right when Affleck's stock was really starting to crash and Damon shows that he doesn't take himself that seriously by doing a cameo in a totally shitty movie noone would really see because it was also shooting in Prague.

Scottie doesn't know.

a young sean connery in the Longest Day

Does that really count?

A cameo really seems to be a brief role with somebody recognizable for the audience to immediately go, "hey, it's...!" At the time of TLD, Connery wasn't really anyone famous and was just a nobody actor playing a minor role in a huge film. Sure, after the fact in hindsight it's an awesome cameo...but is it REALLY a cameo?

It's a conundrum.

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back had a ton of them too.

And it's not a cameo but when they mention something fro another movie. In Fifty First Dates, the memory center is Callahan Institue which is named after Tommy Callahan from Tommy Boy.
