View Full Version : Will this be a revolution in musical instuments ?
I am not a musician, but this looks pretty amazing to me. (http://blog.wired.com/music/2008/06/moog-unveils-ba.html)
Do the musicians out there see this as a gimmick or will it change things ?

This is, at best, a gimmicky toy.
It will not have an impact on guitar performance/recording and it will not make a dent at retail.

Its very nice but there are ways to get infinite sustain already, anything from good old feedback to EBows to Fernandes Sustainer systems.
Having said that, almost anything Moog is amazing.

Agreed.
I was going to mention that, when ya really think about it, there's no NEED for this thing. There's a myriad of ways to achieve that same effect. Why even bother with this contraption... ya know?

Syd Barrett would wipe his ass with this thing

Yeah, but that's because he's nuts and doesn't know any better...
Angus Young has more sustain in his fingers than any processor could hope to create.

The Classic, revisited. Sustain for decades, and the ability to send speaker cones flying as they burst into flames...

I finger-pick, so i don't think it would be ideal for me. that being said, the application of a skilled rock guitarist with the Moog guitar could be awesome. I'd like to see Trey Anastasio get ahold of this thing.
Very cool guitar...

It has a lot of potential. Anyone who knows even a little bit about the guitar can do really amazing things with this. Those harmonic blends are awesome. That price is insane though!
Incidentally, if I had one of these:

... I would never leave my house!!!

With most electronic instruments they never really catch on at first, until someone really creates something with it to show its true potential, case in point the original moog synthesizer really only got reconition after Keith Emerson used it in Lucky Man....

I think this instrument could be MORE revolutionary:

I really like the Hang Drum, but getting one is nearly impossible. They are also expensive.
However, if some company somewhere comes up with the ability to mass produce these little babies, I think they would gain a great deal of popularity. I know I would love to have one.

Is it "fun" and "interesting"... yes.
But it will never have a permanent place at any studio or stage.
This is like 4-wheel-steering... or minidiscs... or any random kitchen-gadget that you see on late night infomercials.
It'll never really catch on. There's just no NEED for it.
The Parker Fly never caught on. And neither did those Line6 axes. Throw the Moog Guitar on that same pile.
