Amen to that. I thought I was the only one was annoyed by the complete lack of restraint by the person preparing my bagel when it comes to butter application. I was beginning to worry that my pronunciation of "light butter" sounded too much like "butter sandwich"

Same for when I order a sandwich. "NO MAYO!" Of course it's globbed on there. They're like fucking robots.

I finally learned how to order my hot open turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes - gravy ON THE SIDE.

No matter how I stressed to them that I didn't want the meal swimming in gravy it was like soup when I got it. One day I'm going to pull a "Falling Down" and jump over the counter and bury the cooks head in a vat of gravy.

Now I will never let a toaster touch my bagel. The soft, warm, freshly cooked bagel is above and beyond any thing you can make a breakfast sandwich out of.

Go with a 3 lb. roll. The pre-sliced stuff is for pussies.

Heat up a skillet or frying pan to medium.

Cut a few slices from the roll. Cut right through the plastic wrap, just peel it off the individual slices before you start to cook it. Don't make the slices too thick (think of a slice of bologna or a wee bit thicker)

Cut three or four notches in each slice to prevent curling. Lightly brown each side (see Gvac's post for reference) and then move the slices to your roll (hard roll recommended but anything other than a potato roll is good). A slice of yellow American cheese goes between the slices. Egg is optional but highly recommended. Add SPK to taste.

Remember to cover the open end of the roll with a plastic bag and a rubber band when you're done. That way it will stay fresh in the fridge forever (In my house, forever is roughly 3 weeks).

Just remember who loves ya.


P.S. Go nuts and order some Kandy Kakes while you're at it. Gives you the whole Jersey taste experience.
