At Wizard World I bought a bunch of 90's Spider-Man books from the quarter bins. They're not as terrible as I'd been led to believe.

I got Spider-Man/Batman, Spider-Man: The Final Adventure, and issues where all the Spider-Man books were renamed "The Amazing Scarlet Spider", "The Spectacular Scarlet Spider", etc. They're not great, but far from the worst comics I've read. 90's X-Men for example was waaay more incomprehensible. And at least the Clone books weren't boring.

I liked Ben Riley, though he was an interesting character. It wasn't that the clone saga was horrible(though not very good), its that it was such a 'fuck you' to all the people that have been reading spiderman for years.

Didn't Aunt May die and come back in that?

That's a bad comic plot.

She did die but she came back well after the clone mess was over. That was the real shame. Her death scene was one of the most touching things I've ever read in a comic.

Yeah, thats one thing they should have kept. They wouldn't be doing this One More Day mess had they let Aunt May die with dignity! The way they brought her back was awful...a genetically enhanced actress? Come on.

One More Day/Brand New Day wasn't due to Aunt May. Yes, it was a way to save her life, but the only purpose was to undo the Pater/Mary Jane marriage.

And the clone saga was great. But the clone saga I'm talking about is the one in Ultimate Spider-man.

The original universe clone saga is one of the bigger "woulda-shoulda's" in comic history. People love to slam it, but it wasn't a horrible storyline...if it had been done efficiently like originally planned by the writers and group editors, it would have been just fine, but it stated selling like gangbusters, so Marvel wanted it pushed on and on and the writers had to come up with more and more ridiculous twists to keep it going.

There's a great, and really long, analysis of the whople shebang called "Life of Reilly" (http://lifeofreillyarchives.blogspot.com/) that provides really fascinating and frustrating behind the scenes insight into the whole thing as it went along.

Like others have said, Ben Reilly was a great character. The biggest shame of the whole thing was killing him off. Issue #400 of ASM, where Aunt May died, was one of the best Spidey issues ever, and it's really unfortunate that it's effectively been negated.

The worst part was that the writers resorted to bringing back Norman Osborne to explain away the whole thing. That was done very shittily and Osborn since he's been back has been an awful character.

It's not a tee shirt, it's a hoody. In case he decides to rob a 7-11.

Horrible costume, horrible superhero name...but Ben Reilly ruled.

.

Well, yes, that was the only real-world reason for the storyline, to un-marry Spider-Man.

Within the Marvel U, though, the reason MJ agreed to the deal was to save Aunt May and protect Parker from angsty whining about how he's responsible for the old lady dying.

If you're looking for an original copy it's not hard to find per se, but it might cost you a decent amount. I see 2 copies on eBay right now. One is $43 and the other is $155.

No I have an orginal copy. I was just trying to gauge the rareness of it and thought this would be the place to ask.
