I've been loving the boards on my new Curve and I've discovered the
greatness that is OperaMini, but when I use it here the board still seems to default to a wap setting (like I'd get with the bb browser). Is there a way I can view actual html? I went into my usercp on the phone and didn't see an option for board theme.

There's no option. And you can't view pics on this site either.
JustJon has promised to remedy the problem.

No, the site defaults to a mobile version when you view from a phone and you cannot view the regular html version. You can tell the difference because I'm writing code that bans Gvac from accessing the site with his phone.

As if!
RonFez.net without GvacMobile would be like a day without sunshine!
The board will wither and die!

I've found that if you go to User CP and turn off images (from your pc since you can't update User CP from your phone), you'll then see the links to the images when you're on your phone, so you can at least click on the link and view the images if you want.

We in the listening thread, have been making an effort to post mobile friendly links to the important images. For example... (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff269/scartruck_2007/other/girls/keeley-hazell-08.jpg)
However, keeping up with all images is nearly impossible. Please give it a little time, and things will be worked out. We need your patience right now.
Thanks.

Can code be written into the mobile skin so that it does not default to the mobile phone version if you're accessing it with an iPhone?
I don't want to be stuck on the same page as ham n eggers with the crap cell phone they got for free at the mall kiosk.

I was actually looking at doing an upgrade to the mobile code that will allow a split for an iphone skin, but I haven't gotten to it. I did upgrade the mobile skin tonight, so you should be able to see images and whatnot now.

It's not even a mobile skin, it's the actual message board. And it takes about an hour to view each page if you're not in a wifi area.

Says you. I use Opera Mini on my Blackberry Pearl, and I see photos and everything. I had to change a setting. I'm no help to anyone else though, as I can't remember what setting I changed.

My critique:
• Using the EDGE network, this loads incredibly slowly compared to the old skin.
• Formatting is awkward. If I flip my iPhone to the horizontal, it reads fine, but if I try to reply to a post, the onscreen keyboard covers most of the text box. In the vertical, it's a little better, but still bad.
If I were in a wifi area, it might be OK, but the old skin works better in my situation.

This is the only vbull board (for me) that goes to WAP on my bberry with Opera, so I assumed it was a board setting not a browser setting.

There's a menu option in OperaMini to set it to fake a regular browser code. I haven't had it installed in a long time, so I don't remember the exact setting.

Alright make this really simple for me.
Ii have Verizon for my cell phone service. I would like to be able to browse websites like ronfez.net while I'm away from the computer. I dont want to pay for a fancy phone(iPhone Blackberry). Can those in the know recommend a phone I can get and what to do to my service to make this happen.
Suggestions appreciated post it here or PM me if I'm wasting time
Thanks in advance

any phone that they offer which can use "mobile web" will allow you to read this site in WAP form, meaning just text - no pics, etc. You'll need to get a phone and then sign up for their mobileweb service which, i think, they no longer offer stand alone but they make you pay $15 for VCast which includes mobile web unlimted - that's what I had prior to getting the bberry.
I highly recommend the berry though, the curve can be had for < $150 with a New Every 2 discount and $50 MIR and $100 2 year data plan - the bad thing is Verizon charges $30 for the data plan (thats over whatever minutes plan you have) so it can be pricey but the network is fast as hell and call signals for me are excellent.
otherwise you should look into one of the other non-RIM phones, maybe a Glyde or EnV? The Voyager is supposed to be nice too.

Whatever it is, it works great. It loads pretty fast. At first, I thought it was bad, because everything was too small to see. Then I realized it has a movable window. You hold the window over the part of the page you want to view and click on it. From there, I can just use the track ball to see whatever I'm looking for.

Isn't GvacMobile unnessasary now?
I was led to believe the only reason for GvacMobile was to browse without the pictures etc bogging down the Mobile version.
I for one am going to miss GvacMobile
He was the bestest.

Remember RonFez.net Mobile 2.0? It was perfection. The main page was simply the forums, and the threads were easy to read and uncluttered with icons and sig pics, yet you could see embedded images. Quote boxes were light blue, just like on the board, and the background was white. It was fast, clean, and aesthetically pleasing.

That's pretty much what I want, too. This is unbearably slow loading now unless you are on wifi or a broadband cellular data stream. On the EDGE network, it doesn't work. I had to bag out of the listening thread yesterday. Now, it was shitting the bed so badly I'm not sure how much that would have helped, but it's the side images that are bogging it down, not the images in the posts.

I could fix it and ban your ip
I could fix it
Then why don't you?
Seriously.
Have you tried to view this site on your phone when you're not connected to wifi? It's impossible. The average load time for each page is 3 minutes.
If you want less traffic on this site, fine. Just say it.
Don't be sneaky about it by making a shit eating mobile skin.
I see Goatweed is causing trouble here too.

Memories,
Light the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories
Of the way we were
Scattered pictures,
Of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another
For the way we were
Can it be that it was all so simple then?
Or has time re-written every line?
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me, would we? Could we?
Memories, may be beautiful and yet
What's too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget
So it's the laughter
We will remember
Whenever we remember...
The way we were...
The way we were...

I just left my office to find a wifi spot to post this. The site is unviewable otherwise right now.
It's not the messages that bog it down. It's the stuff to the sides. The ads, and buttons. They aren't loading.
The basic problem now is that this isn't a "mobile" skin. It's just trying to force the whole site down, and unless you are on wifi, you don't have the bandwidth for that. I do think that once I said that since I have an iphone, I'd like to see the whole site, but I was wrong. This doesn't work.

I'm on verizon so while I don't use wifi the speed at which .net loads (as well as other boards and sites) is fine.
I downloaded Opera Mini, and while it loads this site 10 times faster than IE, the way it displays the pages is a clusterfuck. There's no separation between threads, quote boxes, or posts, thus making it an extremely difficult read.

I'm on Blackberry. The download is fairly quick, but as Gvac said, it's a bit disorganized. Especially with the side banners stacked up at the beginning of each page.
I hope you guys know you'll be labeled 'complainers.'

Every day I eagerly check this site on my phone, hoping against hope that things have been fixed.

I've been saying that for a while now. It takes too damn long to load on the EDGE network. I'd much rather have a mobile version for my Iphone. There used to be one, but now we get the whole site again.
I wish they'd switch it back.
